There are a number I would love to have.
As far as birds:
I would love a Hyacinth Macaw. Love, love, love! I think this bird is the quintessential pet bird. They are beautiful, and have a very good temperament. They are the Golden Retreiver(my favorite dog breed :)) of the bird world, very calm, mostly quiet, and easy to get along with. They're also large as hell, the second largest parrot in the world, but that just makes them even more incredible. I WANT one.
http://www.newpetmall.com/hyacinth_macaw_bird.jpg
And as far as one of my favorite types of animals...
The Galapagos Tortoise, which is the largest species in the world, males weighing 500lbs - 800lbs.. This might seem far-fetched, but the Aldabra Tortoise has started to spring up in the pet trade; the second largest species, very similar in size to the Galapagos. Only I would rather have a Galapagos, as Aldabras are just plain dumb. The Galapagos can learn its name, and come when called. How cool is that? It would be necessary to dedicate a few acres to it(I would want to, at least), but land in Louisiana is cheap, and the sub-tropical climate is possibly warm enough to sustain one of these.

I was actually going to post the Galapagos Tortoise. One of those guys would make a chilling pet, but I doubt I could really house him indoors, and I doubt he'd enjoy the Canadian climate. But it would be cool nonetheless.

Obviously never been to kingsnake.com?
http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=50&de=669983
It's yours for a mere $12,500.
I would also note that the Hyacinth Macaw I want is typically sold for about the same money.
EDIT: On second thought, that's not a Galapagos.
EDIT: On third thought, it is.

Pretty much this. I think I drive the people around me a bit crazy sometimes...
But on top of the list, is the glorious Mimic Octopus.
http://travel-boracay.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/mimic3.jpg
Look 'em up on youtube. The little bastards can change coloration and body language/shape in order to imitate other animals. They're also extremely fragile, only live around two to three years, and are going to knock $300 out of my wallet AFTER the tank and everything. They're one of the coolest goddamn animals on the planet.
Any kind of bigger bird would be nice, preferably some kind of parrot or cockatoo. A bufo alvarius(Colorado River Toad) would also be a neat addition to the family, not the least because they produce a psychoactive venom that can be milked and refined without harming the toad. Plus they're cute as hell, in that toady way.
Thanks to friggin' SHARP I now also desire a
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens. They're amazing looking spiders.
Something really offbeat and wild will probably be had eventually anyway. The real question is when I went from being an apathetic stoner, to having my life consumed by the research of animals and plants...

Oddly enough, a hyena.
They may be hard on the eyes and have a fucked up cackle, but they can actually be domesticated and eventually will act like dogs to some degree. I think they're really cool for some reason, and ever since I saw something on NatGeo on a "Hyena Man" I've been hooked.

I only have room for about another ten gallon terrarium. I'd do the research, but being knee-deep in rum I'll have to hold off on that for another day...

They like to eat piranha.
Guess it's the same with our Pike and Perch - both are predators in their own right - but one has the potential to grow huge compared to the other.
I bet fishing for one of those bastards would be intense. He'd be a dead fishy before he ever got on board my boat though.
Yeah, they do seem to have longer teeth than our Pikes or sharks (although the sharks will easily outgrow that Vampire tetra), but all in all it'd probably be a good idea to keep your fingers well during and after landing it.:D

The alligator or fish pic is actually a fish. Got gills and fish flippers and all.
As for the Emperor Scorpion, I do find them quite interesting, SHARP, how do you take proper care of them? I assume you need to regulate the temperature, hiding spots, etc, but about food I can't be so sure. How often does it eat?

Well, it's a rainforest species from Western Africa and thus likes a good deal of humidity, 75-80% should do fine, and keep the temperature around 26-30° C.
They like to dig, so a thick layer of substrate (unfertilized potting soil works fine for me, it's the same I keep my spiders on) some 15-20 cm should be more than enough.
You can mix in a bit o' twigs and dead leaves to give the substrate a more natural texture, just remember to make sure there's no creepy-crawlies in there, and if you bake it first you should get rid of any fungi.
Don't forget a water dish, the bottom of a plastic soda bottle works fine, and give it a piece of bark to hide under as well.
As they're nocturnal I'd suggest you decorate the terrarium so you'll have something to look at when the scorp is hiding, think "rainforest floor" and you'll get the idea, as long as you don't use the bark chips that are meant to be used as reptile bedding - that stuff is poisonous to most terrestrial invertebrates, and don't use any heavy decorations unless you make sure the scorp can't undermine them and get crushed.
If you decide to plant the terrarium, let the plants stay in the pots as the scorpion will fuck up the roots when it digs.
Feed it about once a week, as long as they have access to water they can go for months without food as long as they're well fed from the start as they're pretty good at picking up the nutrients.
You can feed it anything it can overpower, crickets, grasshoppers, mealworms, cockroaches, and so on.
The occasional pinky mouse won't hurt either, just don't overdo it or you'll end up with a fat, lazy scorpion.
Naturally, I wouldn't suggest spiders, other scorpions, bees, wasps, or anything else that could injure or kill it, and make sure the feeder insects can't have been in contact with pesticides.
EDIT: I just forgot, a terrarium with a floor space of 30X30 cm should work fine for one scorpion, they can be kept in colony, but you gotta make sure there's more hiding places than scorpions, or at least as many, and that all are the same size and kept well fed, about 80X40 cm should work for some 5-6 scorps, but I'd advice you to get some experience with one, first.
That's about all there is to it.:)

My condolences, I would have fed him one...
When I lost the majority of my community tank due to a couple of housemate's rampant smoking by my tank while I was sleeping (the majority of the fish possessed labyrinth organs...) I went a bit ballistic. Overturned my table, yelled, threw a knife into the wall and started throwing their cigarettes away while they were asleep(or so I told them, I had like six back up packs when they left...), that sort of thing. Only time in my life I've ever been a truly violent drunk. Threw 'em out of the house a couple of days later because I was spending my mornings getting drunk and wondering where I was going to hide the bodies. I had planned on keeping the bichir for the rest of my life, and I had a dwarf gourami that must have had some sort of genetic mutation considering the sheer SIZE of the bastard, a good two inches longer than I had ever read about.
To keep mildly on topic, I just found out there's a species of legless lizard that lives in my rough area. I should have one soon enough...

This thread taught me about so many awesome new animals.
I want two rats and I want to name them Voltaire and Rousseau and hope they get along better than their namesakes. That's all. I feel simple now :(.

Sucks to hear about your fish. I have to explain to people trying to smoke in my house that it could kill my bettas. Not to mention it fucking reeks anyways, and I smoke cigs.
Legless lizards are amazingly awesome. Post pictures if you manage to harvest one.
