Since I started watching Heroes, I couldn't help but feel that some of the characters are paradigmatic, in that characters from both Heroes and LOST both sorta fit the same role. Because not everyone watches both shows, I'm going to post the non-spoiler section first, and will later post spoiler-ful clarifications. Also, because I'm way more familiar with LOST, as I would imagine most of the people here are, I'll do it from that perspective.

Jack: Jack is both a whiny bitch with a control complex, as well as a tragic hero in his own right. He is the Petrelli brothers.

Kate: Kate is the woman with the dark past, the dark secrets, and the desire for redemption. She is Claire, the cheerleader, and Nikki, the mother.

Said: The skeptical "take charge" kinda guy who likes to know, but rarely talks, would be a clear analogue to Mohinder, despite the fact that Mohinder has no superpowers. I mean, Said doesn't NEED powers to be a badass. If he did have powers, however, they'd be Matt the police officer's.

Desmond: Desmond is clearly Isaac. To some extent, there's a bit of Hiro in Desmond as well, and even Matt, the police officer.

Hurley: Another character that is a mirror of some of Hiro's aspects. Both are somewhat amusing, but important in their own ways.

Charlie: Charlie is Peter Petrelli, specifically. The wannabe hero with self-worth and identity issues.

Claire: Claire the australian mother, in many ways, is Claire the Texan cheerleader. Vulnerability plays a major though fundamentally different role in both characters, but the similarity is there.

I'll post more about this later, but there's the basics
