Started making this a few months ago, but got lazy and started on other projects.
Now I'm interested again, and I've taken a pre-OPD valve propane tank apart and am plumbing it for use as the flamethrower's tank.
Thought this would be a good place to store my progress.

That last one was the old PVC tank, which leaked horribly. As soon as I can find my camera cord, I'll upload ones of the propane tank I'm going to be using soon.
There is a surprising lack of information on the internet; most people just fill up a supersoaker and post it on JewTube as "INSAIN FLAMETHROWER121!!21!"

the handle is metal. how hot does it get and is it enough to melt the plastic hosing? and the blowtorch as a pilot looks as though it would expend fuel quite rapidly, even when not firing

I doubt it could, but I really don't know. Haven't had much of a success with shooting it because of the lack of a functioning tank.
Yeah, the pilot is probably a bit of a waste. But it works (And works well!), and I have plenty of mini-camping tanks.
.....I need to find better things to do at 3:30 AM...

I know I'm gonna have to wait on flood control so... I knew a kid in basic who would jerk it every night. On fireguard you could hear his bed squeaking rhythmically. I wonder where he's at now.

Heh, found that long ago. It's what gave me the first ideas and design for it, cept' the PVC tank is complete shit.
The plug can't form a good seal, and is impossible to remove.

Use an old 9kg propane/bbq gas canister. Good for the pressure, and it has a tap(leak proof :)). Might be a bit big though.....Maybe just get 2 small 3-3.5kg tanks and stick them side by side. Just need a way to keep it pressurized....

I never have used one and sadly cant find much info on them but I know people that lay asphalt use flamethrowers to heat the asphalt if i gets too cold or such. I know you could just refill them with propane and would put out a awesome amount of flame.

cool shit. can't wait to see some action pics.
I recently salvaged a stainless steel APW fire extinguisher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_pressurized_water) and I think I've figured out what I'm going to do with it :D

Good site.
Sadly the only flame thrower I made was a 60ml syringe filled with bbq fire aid or something and various gas lighters with the limiter taken out (still a good foot or two of flame, good for killing bugs but not good for curtains :( )
OP, post results etc.
