What do you think is the best, quiettest time to do a smash n grab on a store? I was thinking maybe 2 to 4 AM would be good. What do you think??

2-4 sounds good but basically any time in the area of third shift. 12-7am is pretty much the time where the population is disoriented, sleepy, or asleep
3-4AM on a Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. Usually that's the quietest time on the quietest nights.

I was assuming he was going after merchandise rather than money. Most stores I've worked at cleared the register at the end of the day before closing up, not sure about places that are open 24/7 though. In those cases I guess if you were after cash, 3-4AM would be the time with the least amount of cash.

Ah yes good point. Been thinking of what merchandise though. Hell, if its for a few measly chocolote bars at 7-11 or booze from liquorland then its hardly worth the risk...
Big ticket items like electrical goods then, maybe but you'd be better to do something like that as soon as they open the doors in the morning before people get 'into' work.

If you do it in the middle of the night/early morning you're going to have to actually break into the store, which could be more problematic assuming they have an alarm and/or night security, if you're caught you'd probably get an extra charge or two also.
You'd probably be better off doing it soon after the store opens or before they're about to close, while all the employees are busy doing pre-customer shit or too tired to give a fuck.

During a Cat. 5 hurricane or other major disaster would be optimal.

Might want to get a bunch of prepaid phones and call in stabbings/shootings/hostages in the radius surrounding the crime scene.

Recently in my area a guy tried this tactic attempting to rob a pharmacy. Dispatch became suspicious for some reason and sent an officer to the direction of the fake crime in progress and another unit to the opposite direction. The area where the actual crime took place. He was apprehended and also charged with false report.

You could always just cause some kind of distraction at the other location, although there'd probably be charges attached to that too if you were caught. And in the case you mentioned the police operator could probably see that the call was coming in from a location different to the one that was being mentioned in the call.
monday night, 3:15 is optimal time. best when windy outside.
