Currently have a distribution cap, and its getting worse every day with the bad rain and puddles. I've got a few options

Replace the cap
Replace the whole system to fuel injection
Get a new car

The rest of the truck is relatively in good shape, the wiring was just replaced (last year), has just over 100, 000 miles and I haven't had trouble with anything else. I have a friend that can possibly do the labor and replace the cap or even replace the whole system to direct fuel injection but I was hoping for a bit of advice first.

Just how much things will cost and the options available, also any advice to maintenance. Money is always a factor but I have a decent amount to burn, enough to get a decent used car but I'd prefer to keep the truck in the family as it has some history.

you are talking about two different systems here,...fuel and spark. Do a major ign system tune up: spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and distributor rotor. Im pretty sure you already have fuel injection, even if it is just a tbi (throttle body injection)

problems in rain/puddles most likely means there are issues with your ign system. do the tune up like i said before and see if the problem persists.
