Hello all

Let's say hypothetically a friend of mine ordered a playstation 3 from amazon, and then reported as not received. He got a refund instead of having them resend one. What are the chances that amazon will follow up on the "stolen" ps3 since they have the serial number. I know for a fact you can get the mac address from the serial number and can be reported to Sony and tracked down if it is ever used on the playstation network. Is it possible that amazon would go through all that trouble? Would my friend be better off just getting rid of it instead of using it for himself?

Amazon will use tracking and when they look at it, it will say delivered.
Then they'll send you a messaging saying, verbatim: "gtfo noob".

What are you talking about? Ofcourse the tracking says delivered. Ups left it at his front door and it was "stolen" off the porch. The question is...whether amazon will track the ps3 via serial number and Mac address on the playstation network.

They will require signature for anything over like $100. But in answer to your question, no. It is highly unlikely that they will record the serial number on your playstation let alone hire someone to do so considering it would be UPS's insurance paying for the replacement or refund.

Thanks for the reply. Amazon actually doesnt require a signature for anything under 750.00. Trust me...my friend knows from experience.

IDK why your friend would do this scam with an item containing serial numbers. Not very smart. It could be tracked but will it... probably not. I'd still sell it to be safe.

No they don't, a user on zoklet quoted up to $700 without a signature. In the UK it is definitely more than $100 but not sure what the upper limit is. Not to mention if on the day it turns out that they require a signature it is a no go. Unless of course they are stupid enough to leave it on the porch.

No they won't go through the trouble it's super unlikely i know my friend swim tried this hypothetically speaking with a MacBook Pro and In apple forums people with every single info of their Mac that have gotten it stolen and they can't even track it down nor can apple

Also they didn't require signature on it 1k+ but he got lucky and was easier for him

This EXACT thing happened to me (but with a pay-monthly catalogue not amazon). Left the PS3 outside my door, I said it wasn't there, they sent a new one and I sent it back saying I don't want it any more.

Anyway, they're not going to check the serial number or anything. If you've managed to get a refund then you've got away with it. Congratulations and enjoy your free PS3.

Is it just me or does this question get asked at least once a week? OP if your friend is going to do this make sure it's at a drop house and for fucks sake make sure "your friend" does it for something bigger than a PS3. UPS will get fed up with this shit and stop delivering to your house altogether. This is why you want a drop house. Otherwise you (sorry i mean your friend) and your grandma or anyone else living at your residence will have to start picking up packages at a local UPS store or facility. It's a huge hassle for such a small dollar item.

tl;dr - Go big because this is a one time thing or use a drop house.

ups has asked me for signatures for packages that are worth less than 40 $. In fact all shipping companies have asked my signatures each time they delivered packages they never just leave it on the porch.

Nevertheless Amazon will investigate with UPS but not with Sony

Yep, there must be like 20 threads on this subject. :XD: Popular scam for the 16 year olds, it seems.
