Do you mean the glasses in question had some kind of engraved lettering on the lenses? If so, just pop 'em out. Get yourself a set of jewelry screwdrivers - they have those in my area for $1 per set - loosen the screws on the frames, and pop the lenses out. Tighten screws, take to lens place, order new lenses, and you're done.
They won't ask where the frames came from, guaranteed. If they do for some odd reason, you got 'em on eBay.

I just recently went to an eye doctor. He was nice enough to actually give me my prescription without me even asking for it. It shouldn't be a problem for your friend. If he calls and asks for it, just say he wants to get a pair from an online retailer or somewhere that said they can get them done in 2days or something.
