Just watched the Cowboy Bebop movie, Full Metal Alchemist movie, and Meloncholoy of Haruhi Suzumiya first season.

The only one I liked was the Cowboy Bebop movie.: /

And of course new episodes of Bleach on adult swim. Seriously though, they need to get new animes. They've been showing the same reruns for years now.

For current season stuff, or any old anime?

Current season I'm watching Moretsu Pirates, Rinne no Lagrange, Another, Mirai Nikki, and Chihayafuru. I think they're all worthy recommendations for a watch right now.

Moretsu Pirates is off to an interesting start, but I almost guarantee it will get a shitload of hate thrown at it. Slotted for 26 episodes, so though it's off to a bit of a slow start, there's lot of room for plot development and a real good story to grow. You're either gonna love it or you're not kind of deal. If cute highschool girls partaking in digital warfare while sailing through outer space is your thing, watch it. I like it.

Rinne no Lagrange is somewhere right along the lines of miniskirt pirates, except instead of cute highschool girls being space prates, you have cute highschool girls piloting giant mecha to save the world. Generic as fuck plot, alright so far at 4 episodes into the season though.

Another is a horror series that's really building up a pretty good setting so far. I'm excited for the subs to come out on this one every week. Not really sure what to say about it. Guy sees dead girl's ghost, people start dying, some sort of mysterious curse no one will tak about. I like it up to this point, and most horror anime kind of suck. This one is done pretty well.

Mirai Nikki is just a must see in my opinion. This is what I'm most excited about every week. A dozen people are seelcted by God and given diaries which tell them the future in different ways, then they are placed in a battle royale in which they have to kill one another off, with the last an standing taking over God's role. If you liked Deadman Wonderland, and haven't picked this up, get on it. I find them similar in a lot of ways.

Chihayafuru, well, it's fucking retarded. It's Josei anime for women about a bunch of kids in the Karuta club slapping poem cards around on the floor. I don't know why I keep watching, but I can't stop. It's all for the sweet sweet Chihaya. Same shit stupid reasons I watch all of Hanasaku Iroha for all the Ohana I think...

PS. Lain sucked...

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann*< Great shit. I'm not a fan of Mecha Anime, But THIS... this is amazing. It just dethroned Darker Than Black (who was #2before) in my top 3. FMA, TTGL, Darker Than Black. I don't remember who was the previous third. It's that good, it has awesome music.

Lucid made a good list above. Mirai Nikki is good objectively, but I personally find it boring, too stressful.

I'd Add Persona 4 and Brave 10 who are currently running.

The first is a detective/suspense story, 26 eps, game adaptation, the other is about ninjas, but not as retarded as Naruto. It's pretty good in my opinion. It's action, 26 eps, and it's about a lord who makes a team of 10 braves to do something. Each brave has different abilities/skills/specializations. It resembles Muramasa: The Demon Blade game.

Darker than Black
Seikon no Qwaser (uncensored, boobies)

are good too.

In all seriousness: I've only seen three chinese cartoons in my life, but I did enjoy SEL. Recommend something similar.

I guess I can't completely hate Lain. There are endless titles that are way worse. It's just way over-hyped for what it was. It certainly wasn't deep by any means.

I'd recommend Ergo Proxy, Texhnolyze, or Paranoia Agent off the top of my head.

I know it's probably an unpopular opinion on any anime forum, but I just don't think Lain is as awesome as a lot of people say it is. It was okay...I didn't hate it. I just think that, like a lot of series, it starts out great and kinda peters out towards the end.

Still one of my favorite opening themes.

Brave 10 lost me early. I tend to pick up and marathon completed series from the previous season when the current airing seasons start slowing down though. So I might give it another chance some day. Not going to follow it actively though, unless it really starts getting some discussion going, then I may check it out.

Persona 4 I decided to wait for completion on, though I do want to get watching this. I just know it will irritate the hell out of me to have to wait for episodes in this one.

I was waiting for completion of Mirai Nikki to watch it, but I thought it was only 13 episodes, so now I'm stuck waiting week to week for my fix. I guess this is anothe rone of those "you'll love it, or hate it" series. Again, just like Deadman Wonderland, which got it's fair share of hatred for the same reasons.

You've got a pretty solid top 3 that a lot of anime viewers would probably agree with. I don't even know if I could fairly name a top 3. I'd have to squeeze Spice and Wolf, and Baccano in there somehow if I did though.

What type of anime's do you like?

I always recommend:
Claymore, Gantz and Hellsing OVA for the gory type.
Naurto Shippuden(yes, it does get pretty good), Bleach(yeayea), Blood Trinity, and Black Blood Brothers for a less gory dramatic fighter
Samurai Champolo, Fiary Tale, and Soul Eater don't feel overly serious.
Ghost in the Shell SAC/2nd gig
Bakemonogatari and To Aru Majutsu no Index are worth a watch just for the drawing style, and the story's to both are also very good.

Haha thanks. I just remembered my old Third, and now it's my 4th favorite, and it's Blood+. It was amazing, simply. I like the bittersweet endings, they bring manly tears.

I have more favorite animes, I could probably do a top 5 or ten but I prefer my top 3. Shorter and sweeter. But you'd find Gankutsuou, Shiki, Stein's Gate, Seikon No Qwaser in them to name a few.

Baccano was cool, the story was very interesting, although the time skips from past to present to future to present to future to past were misleading. You have to put the pieces up together yourself; but that is what makes it charm.

I suppose a Top 3 where it's Naruto, Dragonball (GT only?) and Bleach would be a lame top 3? I'm not too versed in anime circles, I'm not judgemental of people's favorites, to each their own anyway. But I'm curious of your opinion on this.

I think Dragonball is mostly accepted quietly by the majority of anime nerds, even the most raging ones. Probably because most were exposed to it when they were younger as one of their first anime, and it still holds a spot for many. Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece will get your flamed into oblivion in a lot of circles.

I really don't give a shit what anyone thinks of what I like. Hell, I even enjoyed Elfen Lied when I watched it. That'll get almost as much flaming as any of the aboved mentioned or more.

Bleach, I like the manga. The anime is not that good. The first season was very good, I liked the formula. The following ones until the final fight with Aizen bored me to tears. Still read what happened on bleach wikia. The issue was mostly the massive amount of characters and the new formula, where you see all the battles happening piece by piece, at the same time but one after the other, this got boring. Too many characters. I liked how Ichigo was developed in the first one.

Altough I did enjoy opening 1,2,3, memory of the wild dance, and Anima Rossa. Number one is good too (the original from season 1) and Season 2 ending was good too. The Hontou Arigato one. Treachery was interesting too. Bleach gave me good music. Opening 2 is uverworld, and all their songs are good (Dtechnolife and Colors of the heart are amongst my favorite songs of all time).

I liked Elfen Lied when I watched it. It was probably one of the first half dozen anime series I watched though, which seems pretty standard practice for getting into anime. Thus the reason all the anime elitists shit on it so much. In terms of being really out there, deep, or something mind-blowing, it just simply isn't. Being one of the firsts for a lot of people though, there tends to be a whole lot of "I just watched Elfen Lied OMG OMG OMG, recommend me something similar" type threads around even years later that drive the more angsty basement dwellers batshit due to it's somewhat generic and cloiched nature, lol.

I can't believe nobody around here has brought up FLCL yet, it seems to be pretty widely accepted as a classic. Definitely worth the short watch.

Gantz was really good in my opinion, but there were aggravating parts in the anime. It's another one of those ones I constantly hear "was a way better manga", but who knows. There are many instances where you'll be sitting there thinking "JESUS FUCK! Just fucking kill it already! SHut the fuck up and shoot!" It'll make you want to pull your hair out, trust me. Once in a while some dialogue is ok, but it seems like the repeated theme for at least the first half of the episodes (at least) is sitting around yapping about not wanting to kill when they should be blowing the fuck out of shit.

I picked up on the Persona 4 anime the other day, and it's not bad. I'm on episode 14 now, and it seems to have hit a "filler" wall this last couple episodes. The whole 2 episode summer story was completely pointless. Yes, the Magical Detective Loveline thing was all kawaii as fuck (ya I said it), but that didn't really make up for being completely pointless filler. I hope this doesn't become a trend for the remainder of the series.

Oh, i forgot to explain how the manga was better. The anime ran for 13 episodes, and at the time i watched it the sequel was not out. The manga, however, was on number 290 i believe. The cut most of the cooler battles and missions out and some of the gore was actually cut back on(if you can believe that). Another big problem the manga didnt have was the repitition you talk about.

In a nutshell:

Giant robots piloted by angsty teens fight off invading aliens.

Super in depth:

Also spoilers abound:

In the near future (the year 2000 actually lol), the earth is ravaged by a cataclysmic event know as "the second impact" which brings about massive climate change and flooding wiping out a good portion of the human race.

What the world was TOLD was that a meteor struck Antarctica, what actually happened was scientists stationed there studying an unknown organism of possible alien origin nick-named "Adam". The scientists "awaken" Adam with disastrous results. It seems Adam was supposed to bring about the apocalypse (as was written in the dead sea scrolls) how ever the scientists managed to minimize the impending apocalypse, somewhat saving earth for the time being.

Flash forward to the year 2014 where the series starts:

14 year old Shinji Ikari is contacted by his estranged father, Gendo Ikari, to come work for the mysterious organization known as NERV. Shinji arrives in the fortress city of Tokyo 3 (the original Tokyo is now underwater ruins) only to find the city under attack from a giant alien being. These aliens are referred to as "Angels" and it turns out they too were foretold of in the dead sea scrolls. Shinji is narrowly rescued by his NERV assigned guardian, Misato Katsuragi, and whisked away to the hidden underground NERV facility while the angel is temporarily halted by the UN forces. Shinji gets quickly ushered into NERV and is shocked to find out he was brought there to be a pilot for an ultra secret giant robot called Evangelion unit 1, or Eva 1.

The Eva robots are controlled mentally and physically by their human pilots (almost as an extension of themselves), this causes much stress on the humans as they can feel "pain" from the robots if they sustain any damage.

Shinji reluctantly accepts the task and goes off to fight the Angel. It seems Angels are next to invincible thanks to a force field that they generate, but the Evas can also generate the same type of field (hmmm? wonder why this is?) so they are the only weapons capable of defeating an angel. He succeeds in defeating it, although with much collateral damage.

Shinji starts a new life in Tokyo 3 as the pilot of unit 1, and must now deal with saving the earth and the harsh world of adolescence. He goes through many ups and downs, gains and losses and is burdened (quite literally) with the very fate of humanity.

The series appears at first to be a simple "monster of the week" giant robot show, but quickly grows into a human drama as more characters are introduced, and more mysteries are revealed.

A must watch for all anime fans.
