I've only started compulsive reading at the age of 15, with 16 impending very closely. So, ummm, do I still have time to catch up with all ya'll bookworm folks, because I feel like I'm competing in a race against time here with only a few months to go until I'm flattened by an immense workload, which brain-blocks me from learning new shit.
My question is, when did you peeps start reading excessively?

Well if you're talking about books, since I was about 13, but it comes and goes depending on my workload in school. Also, it's never too late to start reading omnivorously, so pick up a book and get to it!

yeah reading is awesome. Although since the advent of wikipedia I don't read books too much anymore. Probly like 1-2 proper books a month.

It's never too late to read. Your still a youngster, you have all the time in the world. Besides you don't have to compulsively read, it's not a race. Read at a pace you enjoy.

It's never too late to start reading :) Don't ever lose your love for books, there's something about a good book that technology will never replace.
EDIT: Started reading around 6. Just to answer the question.

12 years old or so. Now I'm 19. Had some ups and downs, recently gotten away from a long vacation from reading and read 32 ebooks in 6 months (had to tally this up for a friend, so I know the number) ranging from warhammer 40k fiction, to Bukowski, to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenancen to Catch-22 and a shitload of others.

I hate ebooks. How can you not sign off after like a couple of pages of reading them? It seems so artificial...

Ebooks can be tedious to read, but after a lot of spare time and practice, I can sit and read them, sometimes to music which is nice. I do, however, prefer the good ol' hardcopies more, as I'm sure most do.
And in response, it's not neva' too late!! I think reading, and reading anything for that matter, is self-cultivating and good brain-food.
Started reading little chapter book type things while every other little kid played kickball when I was 7 years old.

I've never been a compulsive reader. I'm far to slow at reading, I can maybe get through a book every two or three months.
oh shit. I just worked out at this rate by about the time I die I will have got through only 240 books. I better get reading.

Well, technically I'm actually very proficient at reading, but I'm too pedantic and act like a bit of a hypochondriac when it's not really needed. I started reading at 6 or so, but I took too many intervals and now I want to get into it full-on, with no consuming of bite-sized chunks cause they don't help for shit.

Been reading about a book a week since I was five. Slowed down a bit in my early teens but then I started getting high.
I love reading high.

I started reading when I was younger, I've never maintained a steady intensity. Some days I'll read a lot, some days I'll read only a little. It depends on how much I have to do and how bored I am. I do enjoy reading though, and sometimes can get a whole lot of it done.

There's an eb and flow, sometimes i'll read three books within two weeks and sometimes I won't read a book (but will magazine, or other things) for a month. but when I get to reading, I really read. There's no "limit" or "line" to cross to become a book person, just read more then one book or one series of books and your on your way.
