How do I get that money from my dad?

So my dad who lives overseas think that I'm going to NYU (he doesn't speak English) He's paying for my college tuition. He's gonna send me the 1st semester cash by wire. We're talking about 20k. Thing is, I don't want him to get suspicious so he needs to send the money directly to the university account.. If he sends the money to the university, I'm literally
fucked.. I don't go there... I go to a state university but I'm transferring to NYU next year... So I'm trying to find a solution to get that money..

If I give him my account number / routing number and all my bank info and tell him it's the university account, would I receive that money? Everything is gonna be correct expect the beneficiary name (NYU instead of my name)

Can I open a company in my state and call it NYU, LLC or some bullshit like that ? Then open a bank account with that name? Would I have problem with the IRS since it's a big amount ?

Why not take out loans for the college, for like 25k, then have the cash your dad gave you plus +5k, and actually go to school. That way you have a degree as a fallback. And if your clothing line makes it big you can pay back the loans anyway.

Yeah... but you have to take into consideration your fashion plan. It's not realistic to assume you will make cash from it for while. Many businesses don't plan to make a profit for several years after they open (do you have a business plan written out). My main point was just that: debt with degree > no debt, failed fashion dream, low pay job to support fashion business. Worst case scenario.

Support your business decision. But you must make it work this one time so make sure its something you 100% want to do. Make sure you will die for this business or else you may have the possibility of failing. And if you fail you just need to do it over again so start small with 5 grand and make 7 or 8 grand back then spend 8 grand on more clotthes and try to keep dbling your money or atleast end up with a positive balance each time. Save the rest 15k for emergencys tuck it away somewhere extremely safe.
