Description: The future, probably Japan.
Robots have long been put into practical use, and androids have just come into use.

Influenced by the Robot Ethics Committee, it’s become common sense for people to treat androids like household appliances. Their appearance - indistinguishable from humans except for the ring over each android’s head – has lead some people to empathize unnecessarily with androids. Known as “android-holics,” such people have become a social problem.

Rikuo (Jun Fukuyama), a high school student, has been taught from childhood that androids are not to be viewed as humans, and has always used them as convenient tools. One day Rikuo discovers some strange data in the behavior records of his family’s household android.

Rikuo and his friend Masaki (Kenji Nojima) trace Sammy’s (Rie Tanaka) movements, only to discover a mysterious café that features a house rule that “humans and robots are to be treated the same” . . .

Info: The "Time of Eve" (Eve no jikan) series is the latest work by Yasuhiro YOSHIURA, who stunned the anime world with "Pale Cocoon" and "Aquatic Language" (Mizu no kotoba). The series consists of six 15-minute episodes, released every two months starting August 2008. Produced by Studio Rikka and DIRECTIONS, Inc.

Opinion: Awesome animation, music, story, characters and concepts. The description makes it sound slightly cliche but this anime is a masterpiece. There are only 3 episodes out atm, but it's off to an epic start. This is a must watch for all Anime fans and critics. The only flaw is the 15 minute episodes... Has anyone subbed it passed episode 3? I saw somewhere that it's coming out on DVD in Japan, so the series is done, I think.

It's only a six episode series, but I really want to know how this ends.

I didn't know all 6 episodes were finished being made :eek:. I've been looking for quite a while and have had no luck. If you come across them make sure to post them in this thread though. Maybe somebody else of zoklet knows too, so we might just have to wait for more posts.

I think that they are similar in some aspects, however they are also very different. It is pretty difficult to compare them, I think you should watch the first episode and make your judgement then..

I think it would count as sci fi, even though there arent giant robots and space, it's still set in the future, it's got essence of slice of life too.

I wouldn't call it science fiction perse. OK, it is fiction and the science in it is more extrapolated then ours. You won't see any lasers, battledroids or mecha though. It's drama and humor. And the message in it is very politically coloured, sure but they make a point. It's just 60 minutes or so to watch the first 3 eps, I'd say watch them and decide on your own. I think it owns.

It doesn't have to have lasers, spaceships, faster-than-light kung fu action, or robots trying to take over the world to be scifi. :p

Some of the best science fiction I've ever seen/read had none of those things.

Okay, so I watched the 3 eps and I guess I'm the odd one out in this thread. I was expecting something...else. It's pretty lighthearted, the music really doesn't match the dialogue. There are a couple of plot holes, I keep feeling like they could do a whole lot more with the stories.

Thank anonymus and thanks all for keeping this thread alive. I was afraid it had died out and nobody cared about the series, good thing i was wrong. Just watched the new ep and I have to say I'm kind of disappointed... It wasn't bad or anything, just not as epic as I had it built up in my mind. I thought the first three episodes were better, but maybe the long wait just killed the vibe it had going (for me at least).. I'll still be waiting and watching though. Actually I'm going to watch all 4 episodes in a row and see if I feel differently...

Besides every anime must has a filler or anti-climax or whatever
This episode might be that one - lol'd at the ancient robot

There are many more questions appeared and unanswered though:
Like what code did the robot see in the eve's welcome board (see the next episode trailer?) ?
Why they can ignored the 5th law? (Yes, the 3 Law of Robotics might be the main laws but if you watch the previous episode, it is said that every robot must now that they are robot and therefore they must put a ring above their head)

This make me wanted to read Asimov's again

...and yeah. Isaac Asimov. I've been meaning to read I, Robot again. And what was that one series he did...Norby the Mixed Up Robot? I loved that one when I was a kid.
