Yea I always thought that, too. Now that I've seen that I think that setting them all off simultaneously won't work if they are all launched from the same spot. It just looks like a bright cloud of smoke for most of it. Either spread it out wider or space out the explosions a few more seconds.

Not sure that would've done a whole lot of difference, if you've got 45mins worth of powder and you set it all off in that short a time span, you'll still drown the effects in smoke... Gotta let the smoke thin out a bit, otherwise it's just a waste.
If you ask me I'd say they could've cut it to 10-15 minutes perhaps, and it'd still be one serious bombardment - the heaviest shoot I've ever done was 300kg (net weight) in 5 minutes consisting of 3", 4", and 6" shells and cylinder bombs, fired from an area of around 4X8m so the effects were packed pretty tight in the sky.
I reckon we could've set off maybe 200 kgs more without drowning it, but on the other hand we could've drawn it out to last twice as long and it'd still look good...
