Are there any sources for a cheap distillation system, under $100 or 150. I also need a chemical source. Just the company, or if there are private suppliers.
SM seems to not have anything within the US. Looking online pops up a lot of expensive systems that are used in orgchem labs.

This. You can often find a preassembled "kit" for a rather reasonable price. 19/22 or 24/40 are pretty standard sizes and would be preferably for a newbee, 19/22 is quite a bit cheaper but limited in terms of scalability. You'll also some sort of heating apparatus, a hot plate, alcohol burner, heating mantel, etc, and a scale accurate to at least 0.1
We don't source chemicals.

Ah.
Yea. Those are my only barriers. distillation and chemicals (as well as keeping my profile low). Thanks! I'm going to see if I can start a project with some explosives (BTW, I'm not a terrorist if that's what you're thinking now :) ).

Try craigslist, I have found a lot of good deals on there for chem equipment. Also, if you didn't already know this, you don't really need a heating mantel for your round bottom flasks. You can use hotplate and some aluminum foil, it works pretty well, although slightly ghetto. It just makes more sense to buy only buy a hotplate/stirrer and not waste money on a heating mantel.

Uh, this. I reckon an oil or sand bath would work infinitely better.
Also, you really want a hot plate/mag stirrer, not just a hotplate.

Which kind of oil do you speak of?

You can put together a reasonably effective distillation device for under $75 is you don't mind a small condenser.

A small condenser is fine. Speed is not a problem for me. Can you tell me how? I already have 2 round-bottom flasks, and a reflux condenser if I will ever need it. I need a hotplate, but an oil or water bath can take care of heat source.
