reaction to 1st CD - "Whoa, this guy is crazy! Hilarious! I can't believe he says these things and acts this way!" At this point, his material was original, unique, and genuinely funny.
reaction to 2nd CD - "Wow...he's still going crazy..! He's still pretty funny, but he might wanna find a new 'humorous personality,' since that seems to be how he gets laughs..." This was shortly after the "danesplosion" over the internet and such. Basically, at this point, he's just riding the fame of those few great jokes that everyone re-tells, and even amending them in his new stand-up.
reaction to HBO special, multiple Hollywood roles - "Okay...so he's crazy, and freaks out about stuff...but hasn't had any new jokes since the middle track of his second (and last) CD...stop with the superfinger!" ...yeah.
So Dane Cook is going for overexposure, it would seem. He's had multiple side and lead roles in movies now, an HBO special, and numerous stand-up venues, but he always seems to get laughs in the same way, and now he's pissing me off. Maybe it's because I really liked him when I first heard his comedy. I mean, it was damn funny. But now that it's more than apparent that his excessive personality is the driving force of his humor, and thus, the well has run dry, I'm just kinda pissed that he hasn't moved on, or that he hasn't been exposed as an un-original joke stealer (yes, he is), etc.
I mean, the guy still makes me laugh sometimes, but it's been more with the occasional observation that I agree with, and not his particular style or delivery...
BTW, this (http://iwut.com/3062_Dane-Cooks.html) covers it pretty well.
