For me, probably the SNES.

Don't think I've got more enjoyment out of a single console like the SNES. All those Mario games when I was kid, Street Fighter, Killer Instinct and many others made this a simply awesome console. Still works beautifully today as well!

I enjoyed Sony PSX as I had the thing chipped and played cheap games.

Would be interested to hear yours.

Hmm, I loved the NES and SNES when they first came out, but the older console I find myself playing most these days is the N64, so I have to go with that. (I am a Nintendo fanboy so I need to pick one of theirs :p)

It did have a load of games that sucked, but also quite a lot of gems. The gems including games like my favorite FPS, Goldeneye.

I've got a soft spot for the Nintendo 64. Lots of fond memories of playing 007 Goldeneye late into the night as a kid, or playing Mario Smash Brothers with my sister. I think SNES was my first console, though, and I remember Mario Cart fondly.

But the best of all? Hate me if you like, but I'd say the PS2. Max Payne and Resident Evil 4 are at the top of my all-time-favourites list, so that's my vote. The controller had a lot going for it too, though I realise it evolved out of the SNES controller.

Seems a lot like the N64, a few of my friends are avid fans of it. I stuck with my SNES until the PSX had been out a few years, then got that, so missed out on the N64.

They were really good consoles though.

Easily the Playstation 2. I never had any technical issues with it, and the reign of the PS2 saw the rise of some of the best-ever games. MGS3, GTA: San Andreas, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Plus, I was always fond of the Playstation controller layout.

Superb console to be quite honest. I remember the first GTA game coming out on the PS2, it was GTA: 3, my friend had, it, I played it and went and bought a PS2 with GTA: 3 the very next day.

Still, the overall appeal of the SNES was fucking insane, at the time, very, very fond memories.

The cosoles I used as a kid were the SNES, N64, and Gameboy Color. I use to love playing Killer Instinct with my sister as the dinosaur guy, or playing that ridiculously hard Jurassic Park game. Street fighter 2 is pretty cool and the only one of the series I've ever played (Dhalsim ftmfw!). My SNES broke last December, and I've yet to fix it/get a replacement.

For non-console gameplay hours, PC by far.

Sega Genesis, N64, or PS2.

I still have all three hooked up, and I'm not gonna chose a favorite.

I'm going to have to go with exactly this. I think the N64 just pips the Dreamcast for overall fun factor - there were lots of good DC games and I loved mine despite some of the faults and frustrations.. and me missing most of the best games, the N64 was always great even though I never had one.

At one point I borrowed an N64 for almost the entirety of a summer, though. Goldeneye, Zelda: OoT, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, Star Fox 64, Cruisn' World, god knows what I'm forgetting.

I had a Genesis over the SNES. Although I like the SNES and agree it's better if only out of design and library, the Genesis had alot of good things going for it combined with a fuckload of good games. Unfortunately many of them only were "good" as opposed to "great". But the quantity was big enough and there was enough quality within that vast sea that it was worth it. The Sonic games, Revenge of Shinobi/S3, Road Rash 3, Comix Zone, Golden Axe(s), Streets of Rage(s), Toe Jam & Earl (I had panic on funkotron, which to this day is one of the most memorable games for me. To this day I yearn for a jar of chocolate pickles), there's too many to list.

I think the PS2 takes it for me. MGS3, recently, has been getting lots of play because I finally got round to completing it without Alerts, so I got the stealth camo. That's all I need, really.

The PS2 gets it for me because it was the first system I had while I was also gainfully employed, so I was able to buy all the games I wanted for it. I have almost all the games I wanted for it, I'm missing maybe one or two. My PS2 has never broken in the 6 or 7 years I've had it, and still works to this day, only taking a little longer to boot up certain games. Today it's been on since I got out of bed and I've left it paused with the TV off whenever I left to go do something. And it will continue to do this.

It's like a Toyota MR2. It always works and it's always entertaining.

For a favorite, I can't really pick one to be honest. I love the NES/Genesis quite a lot. Also enjoy the 64. SNES is good, and there are titles I love to death on it (TMNT IV/SF II/SMW/etc), but for some reason it's just not there in my head like NES/Genesis.

SNES is probably on par with 64, PSX comes after those. I still love my Saturn to death, but for other reasons.

N64 and the PS2 are my favorite.

I've owned a SNES, N64, Gameboy color and PS2.

I have very fond memories of my friends and I playing the N64 outside until it was dark out. Super smash bros(making little minigames out of regular matches), Zelda, Goldeneye, Mario kart, Perfect dark, etc. It just brings back a ton of memories.

But then again, I've also had great experiences with the PS2. I had mine for 6-7 years. It's chipped, I used .elf programs to play AVI's and watch a ton of movies, countless hours playing Final Fantasy games, it's just a great console. The lens recently burned out, it was getting old and I had to periodically adjust it and it was obviously going to wither out sooner or later...

I'm still not decided on these new consoles... you hear too much problems with the 360, the PS3 lacks titles and the Wii, while "revolutionary", also lacks games and horsepower...

But yeah, N64 gets my vote. I'll probably buy it again. :)

Yeah, but there have been sequels on pretty much every console since the Atari days! Hell, the NES alone had 3 mario games plus a bunch of spin-off titles with mario in it! The genesis had 5 Sonic platformers that I can remember - counting 3D Blast, as well as a couple spin offs of its own. If you look deeply you'll find a rather long list of sequels for pretty much every console. During the last generation of systems, everyone was groaning about the rash of sequels showing up for all the consoles, but look at how many fresh titles came out? At least 7 of those games you mentioned all started out on the previous generation of systems. Just like many good games that came out last gen were sequels of good games that came out the generation previous.

Sure, there are lots of sequels out now, but so what? Many of them are at least decent anyway, and besides which some games deserve continuation. I'm all for new, fresh experiences, but we're getting those anyway! And we'll get alot more! And, the good ones will probably get sequels that may or may not be better! It's been like this for a looooong time.

This. Just because a game got old doesn't make it unplayable. Goldeneye is quite dated by modern standards but it's still incredibly fun now. The controls are quite good once you get used to them, in fact the only limiting factor is physical wear on the control stick - which would degrade control significantly. But then that's the truth with any N64 game, which makes it a moot point.

I suppose most people that don't like Goldeneye these days are Halo fans.

I suppose most people that don't like Goldeneye these days are Halo fans.

The reason I can't play Goldeneye is the aiming scheme. Don't you have to stand completely still and hold the R button to bring up the cross-hair if i'm not mistaken?

I bought Goldeneye when it first came out on the N64 and it blew me away, but i'm not going to take time from games i'm playing now to go back to it. It had it's time and place for me and i'm past it.

Well yeah,i'm not saying there aren't sequels, but there are just as many good, original games coming out. You can't just over look them and then complain it's nothing but sequels. You have to actually take the time and play them.

Yes, to make an accurate shot, you had to hold down the R button and you'd be glued in place. However, for standard, speedy gunfighting this was unneccessary. The control stick moved and turned, the C buttons strafed and looked up and down. The aiming was automatic, if you were facing someone in their general direction the computer aimed your gun at whoever was there. But it was refined, it didn't jerk around on you and it worked 99% of the time. To make it 100%, experienced players used the C buttons in tandem with control stick movement to allow complete control and accurate, quick shooting, without having to negate agility. It worked brilliantly once you got used to it.

N64 or SNES. It's an extremely hard choice.

One has super metroid, the other has Ocarina of time and Majora's mask =/.

I think I'll have to go with N64. Why isn't this a poll?

I didn't have a SNES when I was a young kid, I had a Sega Genesis. I realize SNES is better now, but I have to say I like Genesis more for the nostalgia it brings with it. Golden axe and streets of rage? Fuck yes.

Fuck yeah, Sega 6-pak.

Because it would go about like this:

"wtf why isn't the atari panther on there"

"lol panther furfag"

"wat"

"wtf is a sega genesis is that like the megadrive"

"lol britfag"

"wat"

"consoles are gay, real men are PC gamers"

"enjoy your non-dedicated resources and endless maintenance faggot"

"wat"
