I was reading an article and about far out clocks. Some of them were actually really amazing (article is here if interested www.darkroastedblend.com/2009/05/extraordinary-clocks-and-watches.html)

They had a couple mathematical clocks and there was one that I actually didn't know what a few of them meant.

That link takes you to two of them, the one on the left I can understand, but the one on the right, the gray one, I actually didn't know what a few of the symbols and letters meant. Just wanted to see if anyone could point them out because now I've grown curious.

I'm not familiar with the symbols associated with 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 or 11.

If any math buffs could inform me I'd appreciated it :)

11 is in hexidecimal.
In 5, phi represents the golden ratio
8 is binary represented with dots instead of 1's and 0's

right above the picture there's a link that tells you what they all are :p

great find, I remember seeing the grasshopper clock thing on some documentary.

Tagging this thread... never been able to find a watch I really like under like 5k... will have more time later to look.
