So I hadn't even checked these forums until today, and it revived my interest in the classics.. Upon doing some research (wikipedia) I came across this..

On July 22, 2008, IF Magazine published an article on its website regarding a rumor of a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie that is in development by 20th Century Fox. Producer Erwin Stoff said that the film's development was in the early stages, and that they had "just signed it".[14][15] Keanu Reeves has been confirmed as playing the role of Spike Spiegel.[16][17] It has also been confirmed through Variety in a January 15, 2009 article, that the production company, Sunrise, Inc., will be "closely involved with the development of the English language project" and that Kenji Uchida, Shinichiro Watanabe, and series writer Keiko Nobumoto has been confirmed to be associate producers and that series producer Masahiko Minami has been confirmed as a production consultant. Variety also confirms that Peter Craig is currently attached as screenwriter.[18] Currently, it is slated for release in 2011.[19]

This is new to me. I think there is some real potential here for a great movie, considering there isn't as much supernatural-esque material to deal with as with the Dragonball flick. It would be hard to sum up the whole series in a single movie, but considering there is some depth to the love story that takes place and the rivalry between two former friends. Considering Keanu Reeves experience of playing a chain smoking badass (Constantine).. Who else in hollywood would be better fit to play the part. I'll be looking forward to this.. hopefully we won't be disappointed. Thoughts?

hmm, i'm pretty unsure about keanu reeves as the role of spike, i mean, I remember watching the day the earth stood still and he basically conveyed none emotion at all... i guess i don't have enough knowledge to discredit him as an actor though

this is also new news to me, but i'm lookingg forward to it. the dragonball movie was such a let down!

Considering Keanu Reeves experience of playing a chain smoking badass (Constantine).

He has experience at raping the role of a smoking badass, maybe. (pity to the source material :()
Constantine sucked ass, and and is just one more shit assed moment I had to see Keanu Reeve's stupid surfer faggot face.
I don't know why people give him serious roles. At any given moment, I expect him to just look all wide eyed and spacey and say "....whoooaaaa, dude..."
--which he did do in the Matrix, minus the "dude."

He shoulda stuck with Bill and Ted's.

Lol. Alright, so "Constantine" could have been a much better movie, but it wasn't Keanu's poor acting perfromance, the movie in general just didnt have the energy or action that was potentially there. The climax was also bullshit. I just meant Keanu fits the roll considering his roles in movies that have futuristic enviroments. He dealt with machines and learned kung-fu in The Matrix, chain-smoked in Constantine", and similarily fits the profile/image to portay the character and bring in $$ at the box-office.

(Spoiler.. Maybe)
As for "The Day the Earth Stood Still".. He wasn't supposed to portray any emotion. The character was a replication of a man taken by the alines or w/e, whose purpose was to explore earth as a clean slate to see if it was worth saving. Hints to why at the end, he proclaims mankind worthy of exception because of the emotion of love.. did you watch the movie?

Nah, I didn't bother watching The Day The Earth Stood Still. After the War of The Worlds remake disaster of Tom "Ballsuck" Cruise, I swore off anything in league with that trash.
There are much better actors for the role of Spike, but then again, I have no attachment to Cowboy Bebop, and reckon it'll suck ass. It was a cool cartoon and I enjoyed all of it that I could, but this just feels like a money scheme.

1. Constantine was cool for surface value kick-assery (think brass knuckles/flaming crossbow..c'mon)

2. Keanu Reeves a great actor for what he does, and he'll probably pull off Spike pretty well if he can get the intense cocky/boyish attitude down

After a little more research I found out that Keanu personally pushed towards making Cowboy Bebop a film reality because it was one of his "dream projects". He's actually a big fan of it after watching it in the earlier stages of his career and has been pushing for this for quite some time. I say more power to him. If I was of that caliber actor, and felt I could fit the part for one of my favorite anime series, one that displayed depth and artistic value worth being recognized by the largest audience my work would allow, I'd do it. Still alot of time in waiting to see where this goes. Just interested to see how they sum up the plot and the casting for the remaining characters.

Wow, I never knew that Keanu was a fan of Cowboy Bebop, i guess the fact he really wants the role means he may really involve himself with spike's character.. i'm really excited about this, keep us posted

FYI, Akria Toriyama was involved with the Dragonball Evolutions film. Just because Shinichiro Watanabe is in it doesn't mean it's going to be good.

The real question is, who's gonna be the hottie that's playing Faye Valentine and smoking Lucky Strikes?
