Just got to my first duty station here at Ft Polk. Still in the temp barracks. Already very different here. I feel like a terrible person walking around without a battle buddy and no retard belt, haha. Can't wait to get this in processing shit done with so I can get started and settled in. Don't know anyone here and I have loads of time on my hands.

Is anyone else here also stationed at Polk? Or has anyone else just BEEN stationed here? What is there to do? I don't have a car and everything seems to be real spread out. It's real humid out, I don't feel much like a solo road march.

First, stop saying "battle buddy" "retard belt" and "road march". Say friend, fag strap, and hump. You don't want to be a boot the rest of your career right? Also, don't wear dog tags around your neck. Put them in your pocket.

Second, my best friend was with 2/30 down there. I hope you like working out and getting drunk, because I don't think there's much else to do around there.

Whats a retard belt? Some kind of webbing you have to wear on Basic?

Pistol belt and canteen. 15th Signal Brigade (training brigade for Signal Corps soldiers) policy is that all soldiers there for AIT must wear them when in uniform. It's a pain in the ass and looks fucking stupid.

not pistol belt and canteen, no. we didnt have to wear those. its a stretchy reflective belt that you wear across your shoulder. so you dont get hit by a truck in broad daylight just in case they cant see you with all that camo on!

I feel sorry for you, plehem. I was there for a month in January for JRTC. Talk about bumfuck. You should wrassle some gators! hahaha.

And Freelance, you don't wear your dogtags around your neck? Why?

I haven't taken my dogtags off EVER since I joined the Army. Cept' when the chain broke. But then again, I am very prone to losing shit.

As if the stupid haircut isn't enough (low-medium fade) I don't need anything else visual about me to identify exactly what my profession is. You know, when I throw on my Utah State hoodie, and don't shave for a day or two, I can totally pull off the college student thing even in the highest concentrations of off duty military towns.

That's something I've always wondered about. In my limited exposure to army personnel, I've noticed that while "real" Marines hold disdain for anything that looks orderly and in keeping with military tradition, the doggies (even rangers and some SF guys) still sport the motivated high and tight and such.

You are right about soldiers and thier haircuts. I however still shave my head bald. It is quick, easy, and free. I am all about doing the least amount of work possible, even when it comes to my personal appearance. I bought an electric razor just for that.
