I was visiting a friend in Schenectady and we went to some park to drink beers. I got a little drunk and tackled my friend into a small bush. I felt something hit my spine and when I looked backed it was a small .25 caliber handgun. There was a full clip and a round in the chamber. The serial number is not scratched off.

Keep or discard?

In your opinion, why did the owner throw his handgun into a bush ?

Scratch that shit off yourself, tell nobody about the gun. If your friend inquires, just tell him that you tossed it. I'd keep it though.

if you expect to use it, absolutely not.

If you just want to keep it as a toy or proper, file it up, barrel, serials, hammer, anything that touches the bullet.

Keep it. Scratch off the serial number.

Apparently you don't realize cops can always find out who did it, weather he has the gun or not.

Anyways, do whatever you want with it.

Fuck yeah keep it, if it seems to be in decent condition. And yeah like it was mentioned earlier I would file it all down. Besides just finding a random gun in the park isin't enough evidence to get you convicted for anything. And its a free gun.

What do you mean "oh its only .25" what do you need a bigger caliber for? Shooting through armor? You and I both know your not going to be shooting anyone. Besides .25 ammo is cheap and you don't really need ear plugs.

I mean why bother with the risk of owning a probably hot gun when small caliber arms are cheap as fuck anyway?

Keep it, of course. It's not registered to you, so if you shoot someone, it won't be traced back to you. Make sure you hide it well.

Uhhh, why do you think the owner tossed it into a bush? $100 says that it's a murder weapon.

I'd sell it on craigslist. Free money, none of the legal implications. Unless you're really careful with it.

.25 caliber is gneraly a nigger caliber, not because it's incapable of killing a man or that its all that terrible but because small caliber is the carry of choice by blacks ;)

Dump it.
or
Strip the parts with serial numbers, dump them and the barrel, then sell the parts for cheep.

Why is everyone so paranoid?

Scratch the numbers off and have fun with it , go to some sand dunes or generally thick woods and shoot it off...

Sell it to some gangsters for a quick buck?

Keep it in a well hidden lock box or safe , no one is gonna know you have it
If your friends ask say you bought it for home protection

The gun was tossed or hidden for quick use and if he keeps it no one will miss it or suspect him.

Free fucking handgun sounds like a sweet deal to me

If you sell it, make sure you don't sell it with bullets.

I'd say keep it. Like other people said, file the barrel and parts with serials. Make sure you super file off the serials though, cause even though you can't see it, it doesn't mean its gone. Wipe it down really good, always wear gloves when you handle it, and keep it in a safe. Don't ever carry it on your person unless you feel like you're gonna need it, and even then be careful. Gun charges are no joke. Just cause you see T.I. getting off WAY easier than he should, doesn't mean they won't make an example out of you.

Don't file the serial number off. Trust me on this. I have several years worth of experience with guns, and I tell you, that will just draw more attention. It's not like anyone will instantly recognize the serials if the see it in your possesion, while if they're scratched off, it will look suspicious.

Run a rat tail file down the barrel, around the chamber, extractor, ejector, bolt face, and firing pin.

Then sell it, or, if you are of legal age, just keep it.

Someone with engraving experience should be able to change the serials for you. I should know, I've had this done to every single gun I have ever bought, and I have quite a few. Just ask for pics if you don't believe me ;).

Uhm, you have a gun that can link you to a violent crime, and keeping a gun without a permit for holding or a permit for the gun is a crime in itself.

This man knows his shit. Unless you plan on getting into trouble, filing off the serial number will just draw attention and look suspicious. File slightly anywhere the bullet/casing might touch.

I wasn't aware it was that possible to change the serial number, I'll make a note of it. Thanks-

I don't know why so many people are saying to get rid of it. It's not like the police are going to magically find out you have it.

Nice wooden stock.

It's a factory original. Tula arsenal, to be exact. Yes, it is Russian made, fully automatic. Yes, that is an M16A1, and yes, it is an FAL. Ditto the MP40, and every other subgun there.

Seriously, do not get rid of the numbers.
Just keep it to yourself. If someone sees it on you, it will inspire much less suspicion with the numbers on.
Ballistic matching is highly ineffective, and there is no way to connect a bullet to a serial number history.
Follow my advice and just file the parts. Wipe the gun, and store it. Or sell it, but you run the risk of selling to an undercover cop or something.
I say keep it. Unless you have a fairly good reason for fearing the cops will raid your home.

filing off serials doesn't work, the way cops deal with that is put a chemical (dont remember what exactly), that dissolves the metal around the serial number (because its stamped on and therefore thicker underneath the actual number).

if you get caught with it the police wont believe you/wont care that you found it, what they will see is somebody in possession of a gun that was used in some crime.

yeah, in one of my classes regarding metallurgy, we went over pretty much the exact same thing. it is still possible to obtain the serial number if its been scratched off. though im not sure if heating it up would fix the problem.

anyway, i would just put it in a box and bury it somewhere, for whenever you need a disposable firearm

Best idea. Just wipe it clean first, for the rare case that somebody finds it where you hid it.
