Well I watched the first couple seasons of the show... then i couldn't handle it anymore. I cursed the creators and vowed to stop watching it.

I think it was around the time jack, kate, and sawyer were taken to that island and imprisoned.

It seems like every episode some new crazy shit happens to try and make you forget that they did not explain the crazy events which occurred in the last episode.

I'm not asking for spoilers, but are there ever any answers to this shit? I can't stand loose ends, plot holes, and stories that go NO WHERE. Does this series recover itself? Are there ever any explanations?

If you watch closely, in order, and don't skip episodes, a lot of questions do get answered. A few key questions always remain unanswered - that's why the show might be classified as a drama/mystery. If they simply divulged all of the information at the soonest possible moment, one of the primary purposes of the show would be moot. For most fans, speculating on the answers is half the fun of the show.

If you do decide you want yo ask a question about something that's going on (even if its in an old season), feel free to ask here - please specify how "spoiler-ful" you want answers to be, and I'm sure we can help you get through some of the frustration if you're interested in watching again.

Alternately, there are a handful of regular posters in this forum you could PM if you wanted more specific discussion without the worry of some jackass popping into the thread to spoil things for you.

So you're saying there are explanations? I stopped watching this series years ago so I can't think of any questions right now.

To me it seemed like a big gimic. Start a show thats all mysterious and never provide any explanation... Well that doesn't take a whole lot of skill. Without an explanation the series is just a pile of shit IMO.

And by explanation I don't mean they can never leave anything in suspense. Based on what I've seen they will raise like 10 questions, or show a few really mysterious and unexplained things... and then not explain most of them. Wasn't there a monster on the island when they fist landed? Wtf ever happened with that. Thats the shit I'm talking about. They never wrap that shit up. Its shitty writing... Unless there are some answers in the end.

I think you're forgetting that the only way to drag out a t.v. series for as many years as possible is to sacrifice artistic merit.

This is why I don't watch t.v., except to watch sports or The Discovery Channel, Science Channel, Animal Planet, news, etc. I much prefer cinema.

I watch plenty of TV shows. Lost is the only one that ever fucked me around like this. With dragon ball z they would stretch things out for a million episodes... but at least all the loose ends were eventually wrapped up.

Lost is like a writers dream series. Write whatever you want to grab the viewers attention (not hard at all), and then not be responsible for providing an explanation (the part that takes skill).

Writers: "Wow omgz like lets dig a big hole here. Like wow its a shaft lets blow it up. Like omgz its an underground bunker... with a timer code!!?! Lets press the code!! Lets not press the code!! Oh noes magnetic!! OMGZ a little nigger boy has super powers... but lets never mention or explain this again. Oh noe the survivors raped kate and sawyer!!!!"

OK... So what does that mean. How did that bunker get there, what is the code, and whats with the magnets?!... And the nigger boy with powers??

Writers: "lol i dunno".

Fuck that.

Frankly I don't know how you all can watch it.

Would you throw a book away after reading 75% of it, annoyed that no questions have been answered yet?

Also: People like you usually complain that there is nothing new and original on the television. But when somethings new and original arrives you can't deal with it. And yes, I think Lost is more original then any other tv show.

There are other good shows, Dexter for example. But even Dexter is predictable in it's structure and characters. With Lost you never know what will happen next. It's a total mindfuck and you either like this kind of thing or hate it. I like it.

Apart from that, Lost is the only tv show that pretty much forces the viewer to think. You can't watch Lost without thinking about it and expect to understand anything. You can watch pretty much any other show with 90% of your brain deactivated and still get what is going on. Not so with Lost.

^If I could neg rep you I would. Lost is the only show that makes you think? Lost is the only original TV show? People like me can't handle original tv shows?

Fucking idiot.

Lost is not the only tv show that makes people think. Maybe its the only tv show YOU watch that makes you think. Lost isn't even original. Gilligans island anyone? Thats what lost is. Except with unexplained science fiction mysteries. I can't handle original tv shows? NO. I can't handle retarded, horribly written tv shows. If you can't see the difference then I pity your sole. I am a major fan of dexter, kenny vs spenny, and trailer park boys. All very original.

And about the book comment, can't you see how stupid that is? I'm asking if there are any answers because if there are then I might keep watching. I'm guessing there aren't many. For every answered question there are probably 5 unanswered ones.

If I was 75% done a book, and had got no answers, AND other people who have read the book told me there were no answers in the end, then NO, I would not keep reading it. Hence the point of this thread. Unless you're going to answer my question then fuck off.

E: And its more like I'm 20% into the book, for proper analogy sake.

Nobody has read the book entirely so far, as it isn't finished yet. Whether there are answers in the end or not remains to be seen. The series ends in May 2010.

Hence the point of this thread. Unless you're going to answer my question then fuck off.
Your question has already been answered by Fish. There are answers, but you can't expect to watch the first season and know everything there is to know.

Once again - if EVERYTHING was answered by season 5......that would erase ALL INCENTIVE to watch season 6, now - wouldn't it?

And, how hard is it to understand that the theorizing is the best part? That's what makes "Lost" so great. No theory is too outlandish because you truly, NEVER have any real idea as to what's going to happen next.

Franklin Payne said it best : Mindfuck.

No. The only similarity between "Lost" and "Gilligan's Island" is the fact it takes place, somewhat in part - on an island. No.....no where even close. And, if you stopped watching it a few seasons back, that's when? Season 1? Season 2? Of course there are no answers...it's.....it's the beginning of the show. It's setting up the plot and characters - why would they give away major plot secrets that early?

Your question has already been answered by Fish. There are answers, but you can't expect to watch the first season and know everything there is to know.

This, essentially. How could you just begin to watch a show - and expect to know EVERYTHING. Wouldn't make much sense on the writers part, would it? If it is any consolation to you, my friend - we just finished up Season 5 - and there are VERY FEW actual mysteries remaining. Sure, there's the odd one here and there, but other than that - QUITE A BIT has been wrapped up.

People who say "Lost" is horribly written make me laugh. If you want to a produce a show that millions of people go through with a fine tooth comb, EVERY episode - and make only minimal, if any, errors, be my guest. It's really taken off - and if you even had a MINUTE liking of it the first time around, I highly recommend you start over. If you aren't digging it by the end of Season 5 , then, well - I suppose you just don't like it, no biggie. But, I strongly suggest you give it a chance.

After all, you haven't even gotten to see Richard Alpert - the coolest fucking character in "Lost"! You'll meet him in Season 3. He's the shit. You can hate "Lost" but, if you don't like the character Richard Alpert, there is no hope for you.

I would say a lot of questions still remain unanswered, but a good amount of stuff has been revealed in the fifth season. It's clear at this point that the writers have had some kind of plan all along. If you do decide to start watching the series again though, season three is kinda lame but it picks up towards the end and gets really good again in season four. Don't let season three discourage you.

It was actually mid-seaason three that they announced that they had decided what the ending would be. Basically, by the end of season three, the writers knew exactly what was going to happen for the rest of the show. You can't really blame them for wanting a bit of suspense on our end - if they answered every question that came up as soon as someone asked, it wouldn't be terrible interesting.
