Hah

Wonder how long it'd take to burn. if with 22x it takes 3mins to burn a 4.5gb disc, around 6 mins with DL..then :P guunna be a few hours.

But heh, this is the replacement for blu-ray.

Imagine 10 years from now people are going to be lulzing that we used 4.5 GB DVD.
Just like we did to the 1.44 MB floppy. :(

Hasn't memory in computors been roughly doubling every year.

The one major problem about this disk is ... That is likely to mean that recording and read speeds would be comparatively slow

It's a good start but, to make the disk usable and quick for more practical purposes (Gaming in mind) seems just not on the same level.

I think that having 1.6terabytes is amazing.

For those of you who are saying that it would be hella expensive, you must have not made it to the end.

Dr Chon says that the material cost of a disc would be less than $0.05 (£0.03), but there are a number of advantages in moving to silver nano-rods that would bring that cost down by a factor of 100.

I'll spot you the nickel if you want the gold disc, or the fraction of a penny if you want the silver disc.

EDIT: Keep in mind, I read somewhere that it costs 4 cents to make a penny, and 7 cents to make a nickel. This is why they were considering doing away with the penny, but everybody freaked out.

The advantage of using Gold as a medium is that it will never oxidise and corrode, something that will happen to a lot of CD's and DVD's with aluminum alloy as a disc backing material. It takes many years, but they will degrade, gold wont.

Now, what to fill these with. The day i buy (lol) a game which takes up a terabyte of space... it better be fucking amazing.

This is amazing... I don't mind the long burning times, it's the read times I'm waiting for.

.

yeah, moores law has been pretty accurate for the last few decades, but were reaching a plateau around now. sure, we can make processors smaller, but now weve got the problem of heat
