What's the best way at evading these idiots who will bid on an item that's too cheap to be true, then bitch when it doesn't turn up/say they're going to the cops with your details (pretty hard not to give falsies with ebay over here)/etc?
BTW, if you ever find yourself in court frequently and want to get a tiny slap on the wrists/get off of the charges completely - you need to get diagnosed with a disability. With P.C BS these days, that's pretty easy - I was cut loose on a $30k stealing charge simply for this fact...

Please explain how you pulled this off. I want to sell non-existent items on ebay, and steal money. I know how not to get caught, but how do you get past hold?

It can't be assumed that a "disability" of any sort, even a mental condition would relieve you of responsibility for a crime. You can have a severe mental "insanity" and plead NGRI, and still possess the mens rea, similarly a perfectly sane person could lack the mens rea required to secure a conviction.
Nothing is certain in a court of law, I wouldn't use a condition as a safeguard when engaging in illegal activities. However, it is easy enough to "scam" on ebay without it even going so far as court.

1) Register (preferably using TOR), and have them send the confirmation code (sent over the phone) on some friends' line with the IQ of a raisin, or someone in a nursing home who can't legally be held accountable, they write the code down, you enter it.
2) Unless you're really tricky, get a bank account to use ONLY for ebay, yes it will be in your name but I will ease your fears a little later on.
3) Sell small stuff, say about $50 or so - when the buyers threatan to go to the cops, they won't do anything about it, since it's such a small amount of money. At least this has been my experience.
4) The account will be closed down eventually, just start up a new one, you can even use your dim-witted friends' phone number like 3 times before they blacklist it.
Remember, USE TOR. Greatly decreases your getting into trouble - almost impossible to track your real IP using this. I haven't used it, and still haven't gotten into trouble.
driveby: I can't go into the specifics of what I stole, as they were fairly unusual items - souveniers, really - which would no doubt reveal my identity if any locals would be reading. Basicly, my attorney, with the help of a shrink, told the court that it was a case of diminished responsibility, due to my "illness" making me obsessed with what I had gotten away with, and bang. Not actually fully got off, but very small fine and no criminal record.
