Okay, I just watched this movie. I missed the first ten minutes or so, were they important?
This movie confused the fuck out of me, although I enjoyed it so much. The cartoon style was extremely trippy and I thought the characters were well played .
Does anyone know if the book was any good?
here is a trailer for anyone who hasn't seen/heard of it.

What does a scanner see? I mean, really see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does a passive infrared scanner … see into me — into us — clearly or darkly?

It was...interesting. I didn't really understand one of the parts of it but I went in expecting not to have a clue (this is Philip K Dick after all). I guess I expected it to have some kind of meaning or message and was a little disappointed when it basically turned out to be just a story. A pretty cool story, mind.

I still preferred the book, but yeah, I really liked the film adaptation. The ending in the book is slightly better I think, but the visual style of the film was definitely good, helped to portray the slightly... fucked up feeling that runs throughout.

Yes, the book is very good. If you liked the movie, you'll definitely enjoy the book. I suck at comparing movies to books so I won't. Just read it. :) It does a better job at explaining everything, so you should understand it all by the end.
The rotoscoping was brilliant, IMO. I can't imagine the movie being played out normally. It just wouldn't have that feeling of confusion and being out of control.

I'll be sure to get the book, thanks for the insight. I think I'm going to download it and concentrate on it all the way through. See if I can get the bigger picture..... if there is one.

It did have a message, but if your to dumb to figure it out you probably still wont get it even if I told you. So I wont.
The first ten mins. are important. But you really need to watch it a couple times to fully understand it.

Haven't watched this one (watched Waking Life), but I like Alex Jones' scene in it (in both, actually):

I've seen this movie and I thought that, even though it was somewhat weird, it was still pretty interesting to watch.

The movie was ok and i hate to be the guy who says i liked the book better but yeah the book was better. It's just hard to get the imagery the movie shows out of your head when reading the book.
The plot was pretty easy to understand but there were a few cracks. Or atleast i saw it that way

AHHH, this movie confused me to hell and back, to this day i still think about this movie because i had a bad trip involving it and the matrix (the red pill was substance d, the only way to get to the real world was to get really high and lose what we think is reality)
but the first ten minutes where pretty unimportant, if you didnt understand the end then what chance did you have to understand the start

heh, whatd ya know, the same guy who directed a scanner darkly made waking life, i think the only reason i sat through a scanner darkly was its large host of actors, i got half way through wakeing life and went back to playing games, call me an idiot, but waking life sucked!

A lot of it was just pure bullshit, but some of the bits were pretty good.

I loved the movie. The visual style was great, Keanu Reeves was in a role that was right for him, Robert Downey Jr's character cracked me up at times.
I also really liked the ending.
Haven't read the book.
