Latching locks are notoriously insecure, but ones with covers like on metal gates have been though to be better. Now there's a tool that makes opening a latching gate with a latch cover quick and easy. Plenty of people are dumb enough to rely on latch locks, they're very easy to defeat. If you still need more info on defeating latch locks let me know.

The manufacter probably sells to police departments only but you could easily make one of these devices yourself.

You can buy these all over the net, no worries about the manufacturer...just google "Zak Tool tactical gate pass" and they sell for about $20.

But dang, who would spend $20 for a latch slipping device? The only "safety" those metal cover plates provide is that you have to put your tool in from a higher angle. You could cut a sharp angle in a $1 plastic ruler and get the same result.

And it was kind of fuzzy, but it looked like there might have been just a screen mesh behind those gate bars...you could just cut it and reach inside to unlock the knob.
