In general, most of the danger associated with traveling involves petty thievery or at worst, muggings. On the other hand, there are still places where foreigners face life-threatening danger, like terrorism, kidnapping, or religious/racially motivated attacks.

What's the most dangerous place you've been to, and what precautions do you take in both places with minor and serious dangers?

As of now I've just had to deal with petty bullshit, though in a month I'll be going to Eastern Europe, which is probably one of the most dangerous places for me to travel.

Anyways, for Western Europe it's pretty simple:
1) Keep 50-100 Euros/Pounds under the sole in your shoe for emergencies.

2)When walking into a busy square, scout out the vendors beforehand and steer clear. Some, probably most, are just out to make an honest (but probably over-priced) buck, but there are also some that just peddle bullshit. One guy was "selling" fucking string "bracelets", and by that I mean he had a bunch of red and blue strings, would strike up casual conversations, tie them around people's wrists, and then ask for a donation.

The worst thing about the squares isn't really the vendors (ultimately you can just politely tell them to fuck off), but the fact that you can easily get distracted, thus leaving yourself vulnerable to potential thieves.

3) As for avoiding thieves: Keep your wallet in your front pocket and check it frequently. Keeping a hand in your pocket in a crowded area can be a good defense.

If you're just posting off-topic to troll - don't. That's your warning.

As far as the OP goes, Japan is one of the safest places you can visit. Pretty much zero gun crime that's not mob-related, and pick-pocketing is practically unheard of. Most of the crime that happens here is directed at other Japanese - most of the criminals don't fuck with tourists.

I've been to Tanzania and Israel as well - I'd say those were both higher risk as far as the potential for violent crime. I was in Amsterdam once too - I got followed by a not-too subtle pickpocket for a while, but I was able to shake him pretty easily.

Fag.

?

Anyway, Norway as safe as it gets sorta. Although if you travel too far down Grunerløkka late at night there's a chance you could be mugged but that's not usual. :)

The most dangerous places I've been in so far is the bigger US cities like New York or LA.

Tip I was told when I was going to LA with a 1000 US on me was spread the cash all over you.

Put some in the shoes, socks, underwear, pockets, etc.

That way if you get jacked, they wont get it all.

As for a wallet, I have it around my neck under my clothes.

Don't have to worry about losing it and usually able to watch it at all times.

A win win if you ask me.

In da hood wear a hood and not so bagy pants.

baggy pants = you can't run fast.

carry a 9mil, shoot at leg glock 19s are good, and cheap you're in the hood afterall. if you can't buy one, check trashcans.

don't be a blondie.
