This weekend I'm going to be moving from LA to Orlando and I'm going to be driving through I-10. I'm not in any rush so I was wondering if anybody has ever taken this route. Any interesting places to stop by? I'm going to stop in El Paso and cross over to Juarez, Mexico but apart from that I don't really know where else I could go. Also, does anybody know if there are rest stops where one could sleep for free along the way.

I've driven the stretches of I-10 between west Texas and LA and between northern Florida and southern Louisiana. To be honest, it's pretty damn boring. The only thing I can think of that would be fun is to go a couple of hours off route and spend a few days in Big Bend National Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bend_National_Park) and the surrounding area. I suppose you could also cut through Austin and hang out with hippies & go to a concert. There's some touristy stuff in San Antonio also.

As far as rest stops go, just stop at one, put the seat down and sleep. That's what they are there for. Some will have showers, or you can pay $10 for a shower at a truck stop.
