You didn't spend $50 on an HDMI cable did you?
EDIT: I did some research and it turns out that the problem is likely the Bluray lens. It will cost about $80 to fix. http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?productid=20754
Yeah, I know this. And yes, hd cables cost that much new.

HDMI cables are dirt cheap. There is a guy on amazon selling 6' HDMI for $0.25 + 2.98 shipping. You got boned.
Okayyy nigger. I don't care. I didn't buy it. I'm selling this for a friend. They DO cost 50 brand new and I'm pretty sure its Monster brand too so yeah. Boned.

I know they cost $50 if they're Monster brand... but because HDMI cables are digital there will be absolutely zero difference in quality between a $5 cable and a $50 cable. The only difference is that a $50 cable will probably be better constructed and less likely to have a connection failure or fray... but that's not with $50 as you can still get a $5 or $10 HDMI cable that is pretty sturdy.
Just for future reference... only analog Monster cables are worth the money.

You can do anything except read discs. You can download games onto it, get on internet, etc. Like the guy said above. You can fix it for about 80 dollars.

it could be a fag brand, but $50 for a cable, lol.
i wouldnt want to use a generic controller when playing, but paying 50 bucks for copper wire is dumb.

He's saying that there is no difference between overpriced Monster cables, and the cheap, under $10 cables. Do you know anything about electronics?
Listen man, I know more about WIRES and CABLES than anyone on Zoklet besides MonkeyQ maybe. Fuck off. Go make a thread about the makings of electronic cables. This thread is for buying a PS3. You can start your thread with this. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/field-notes/the-truth-about-monster-cable-266616.php

Just thought I'd add my two pence. Yeah, not cents. Ha.
I'm heavily into hi-fi, and cables are heavily debated in every audio forum you go into, and it's very difficult to discuss them without it turning into a massive flame war. Some people willing to pay $2000 or so for a stereo RCA cable. Monster cables are in general the bottom of the totem pole though - they're very overpriced. I've been fortunate enough to A/B them against Blue Jeans cable costing half as much in a high end system (Mark Levinson No. 3 monoblocks, Pioneer Reference CDP, Wolfson DAC, B&W 601s) and the Blue Jeans wipe the floor with them. However, Monster did make some good power conditioners a while ago.
As for digital cables - as long as the shielding is good enough to prevent the error correction system kicking in, which degrades quality as it has to extrapolate the lost bits, digital cables are all the same. Very cheap HDMI cables often have little shielding and poorly terminated ends, causing the error correction to work its balls off and reduce the video quality. In other words, at the bandwidth/bitrate that HDMI works at, not every bit makes it through the cable as some are "lost" due to interference.
So the $50 Monster will probably be better than the $0.50 ebay cable, but a $20 HDMI cable from a reputable manufacturer will give exactly the same performance as the Monster. Buying a more expensive cable which is better made will also put up with being unplugged and plugged in more often without dying.
