What's the Scariest/Most Violent Anime Series You Can Recommend?

I'm not much into blood and gore or anime for the sake of blood and gore. Elfen Lied was pretty awesome though.

I am, however, trying to find one anime movie or series that will scare the living crap out of me. So far, a couple have come close but I'm kinda disappointed by what most people call horror anime.

My favorites so far for suspense have been Perfect Blue, Paranioa Agent, and this rly short film called Kakurenbo. I've started watching a couple of others like Boogiepop Phantom, which are also good, but not scary in the least.

As far as gore...IMO Wicked City was the most violent I've ever seen. Then there was 3x3 Eyes. I swear that one dude lost several hundred gallons of blood.

as for scary, i havn't seen any anime which really made me jump, i guess the closest is the anime movie of dead space, but that wasn't amazing :(

Elfen Lied is pretty gore
And Higurashi can fill some of your nightmare fuel
Never watched 3x3 Eyes but that was my favorite manga
Since wu cannot die they just kill them again and again

Anyway, I hardly ever see anime that really scary/bloody
Maybe it's because the censorship in anime is more strict then the manga

Going with scary for a moment here, Hellsing really doesnt fit the bill.

Elfen Lied and Monster perhaps (although I've only seen one episode of the former and read one manga volume of the latter). Tangentially theres also Tsukihime (pc game), but the manga isn't scary (I've read about half of it so far), and there is no anime of it.

You have to read the Gantz manga after the first season if you want to continue the story, as the second season is just filler and has a shitty ending since they love to make animes in Japan of mangas that don't have enough material yet for multiple seasons.

The closest anime to Gantz I've seen in terms of content (sex, nudity, violence) would have to be the uncut version of Kite, Mezzo Forte, Angel Cop, Golgo 13, & Crying Freeman.

In terms of plot (games of death), closest thing is Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji/Ultimate Survivor Kaiji and Mahjong Legend Akagi.

This is a manga series but I think you should check out MPD Psycho. The gore is very creative, just the way I likes it. In the first chapter a detective gets the limbless body of his girlfriend mailed to him in an esky... still ALIVE! There was a live action version of it but it made no fucking sense at all and it was censored.
