Bah, too lazy to walk home.
Tomorrow I'm going to work on making it portable, hopefully in time for the 4th of July.
Expect videos of random shit burning. First video is of a garden watering can burning is up, wanted to see how this would affect plastics and such. Judging from the melting/burning plastic and the 'Lake of Fire' on the gravel from this second vid, it works quite well.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiice.
Here's my own set of materials that I'll be using. Since you've built and used your own flamethrower without ending up in the burn ward, maybe you can toss me an opinion?
I'm an 90 octane unleaded type guy, so no kerosene.
-Small Argon tank (~2200psi) for pressuring the main tank with argon (or I could use nitrogen, ect, anything thats inert)
-Large 5 gallon tank to put gasoline in
-Welding regulator between the Argon tank and the gas tank
-Some hose, pipe fitting, and ball valve from home depot to make a simple gun
-A blow torch tank and extended reach nozzle to use as the pilot light
-Old backpack frame to mount it to
-Take argon tank, hook to welding regulator, pressurize gas tank with inert gas to 75-100psi. Then light pilot light near nozzle and go to town.

Pretty damn awesome. Always wanted to do something like that.
When I was 12 or so, I picked up a 60ml syringe. I used lighter fluid mixed with gelled bbq fluid. The 'lighting device' was a match on a paperclip attached to the front of the syringe. It actually worked pretty well :), had a range of about 2-2.5 meters.
Later on I started playing with lighters. I took out the limiter-stick, refilled a lighter and used another lighter to ignite it. I did it for the effect and maybe even for self defense, but never used it. Still have it lying around somewhere. I should make a DIY about it, because it's a cool little toy.

Sounds good, don't know if I'd use a ball valve though. I was planning to use gas, but I couldn't get my hands on a co2/argon/etc. tank with regulator in time for this.

Last night was amazing.
I last-minute put together a second propane tank and some air fittings and made it portable.
At my friends house, there's a lake with an island in his and his neighbor's backyard.
We went out on the island to light off fireworks, got to bring it out there to start the camp fire. Sorry, no video at the moment, but it worked GREAT.
Pictures of the new tank shortly...

Took it on my friends island and lit the campfire. And two other fires. After awhile people started removing the lift charge from the mortar shells and throwing them at each other...
Holding the tube to shoot the mortar was interesting too.
There's burn marks where we put out small brushfires and such...
Best night since me and two friends got stoned and stole 6 loafs of bread and stickers from an unlocked breadtruck.
New video up shortly with pictures of construction and the song "Feuer frei!" by Rammstein in the background.

Friends house, not his trailer anyways.

Sure, if you'd like. The main gun is made of an air compressor spray gun, some random aluminum trim, toilet seat bolts, and a blowtorch I found behind my house.
Tank is a pre-OPD valve propane tank.

Unrelated- If I dig a 3' deep pit, maybe 18" around, jam a 14oz propane tank in the bottom so it's standing up but mostly exposed, build a fire around it, light, sprint away, and watch from 300-400' away on a hill, would it do what I think it will? It would be in the middle of a sandpit mind you, so no risk of starting a forest fire...if the explosion wouldn't be too massive. What are we talking here?:D
I've heard a full butane lighter can make a small mushroom cloud, so I figure the report on this could easily summon my town's entire police force. And I definitely don't want it lighting anything else, so I'd have to know damn well what I'm doing. Definitely do it right after it rains... thoughts?

Oh definitely! I just want to make sure I won't light the forest ablaze, or attract the military. This definitely has the potential for a MASSIVELY destructive blast...

Yes, thats a standing fireball created from tons of small crackers going off such close proximity... and thats small compared to what has been done in the past.

Propane is over-rated. Higher carbon content fuels and hydrocarbons are where its at.

emag?! :)
been a while...
I've heard about the sawdust ones, I just don't have pressurized air to blow it up into the atmosphere. Propane's much simpler... :p
However, I probably can get my hands on a huge sack of sawdust if you can think of an easy way to do it.
What do you think would happen if I put the propane bottle in a steel pipe 3'-4' long jammed in the ground in the middle of a fire pit?:D
