Personally there is a burn ban here... so I might go try to watch a big show somewhere... or might just chill with my friends. I probably wont be lighting off much at all unless it is small road side 1.4g shit... Or I might end up going to a licensed dudes place where he might have approval to fire during the burn ban and shoot stuff there... dunno.

Ended up going to hang out with friends near a lake... brought a bunch of expired signal flares... not to be confused with road flares. Pull string or pull pin style. These burn for 30-60s and are fucking blinding bright as hell. They looked really cool underwater. I'm going to have to keep a few in my car.

I got like 40 of them. For free. At PGI last year.

Everyone smoked and drank a lot. All in all a pretty good time. Just wish it was a less populated area so I could have thrown together some bigger louder stuff.

Went to a small island on a lake that's part of my friends property. Used flamethrower, lit mortars, had a roman candle fight. Nice campfire and such, great fun. Smoked a bowl towards the end of the night, and in the morning I found a bottle of 95% alcohol with 5 or so inches left in the bottle. Needless to say, my throat feels like it's been raped.

asilentbob: signal flares are great fun, I had a few of the kind you shoot out of a flare gun.

Now I'm trying to convert the smaller firework mortars to be shot out of a large flare gun.

I wish you luck with your future flare gun escapades! The one I have is 26.5mm. I have a bunch of white parachute flares and blue or orange smoke flares, can't remember. I haven't had a chance to shoot off either kind yet. I hope to get some custom brass hulls with shotgun shell size primer hole so I can reload my own some time in the future. I THINK that 26.5mm would be about 4 gauge in shotgun hull sizes... and I vaguely remember coming across some page that sold brass hulls for small cannons and had 4 ga... BUT I don't know if it would fit perfectly... I have a sneaking suspicion that it would... and that it would be designed purposefully like this in the past so that 4ga barrel making and hull making equipment for large scale bird/duck hunting could be re-purposed for flares with minimum additional investment.

And a note, the pull pin style are really cool... you pull the little ring and it pulls the pin out of a little brass button... then the button shoots back down into the body of the flare due to a spring and ignites the signal flare... Which kicks out the whole ignition assembly like a roman candle. Fucking cool.
