First things first, I'm extremely distrusting of people - regardless of who they are. Be it parents, "friends", people passing me on the street who give me too much of a glance, etc. I automatically assume the worst, and that they're plotting, in some way, against me. I'm like this all the time, even if it's as simple as a friend calling me and asking if I want to hang out or something. Every single time I leave the house, I have some form of concealed weapon on me, be it a knife, taser, mace, gun(usually not), icepick, etc, just in case something does go wrong.

And what's wrong with that? Just don't let it loose, otherwise you'll be one safe motherfucker. Enjoy avoiding accidents and bad situations because of your new sixth sense.

And what's wrong with that?

"Paranoia is a thought process characterized by excessive anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion.".

Since a young age, I've been under the belief that people are plotting against me, and steadily gotten worse as time progressed.

Enjoy avoiding accidents and bad situations because of your new sixth sense.

I'm not avoiding any foreseeable accidents; most of these feelings are under entirely rational circumstances; ie a friend inviting me to hang out. If anything, I'm losing a lot of enjoyment and participation in life due to my caution.

Well, this seems like it's gotten a wee bit out of control. I'm also paranoid, I carry something like mace, but worse (thank you French Gendarmerie), I can't listen to music while walking at night (I might not hear incoming footsteps), I look over my shoulder every 10 minutes. It's saved me from a crap load of beatings, sometimes it was really close but I managed to escape.

You could always get jumped on the way to your friend, no? But if you still feel paranoid while at your friend's house then something is wrong...

Either get professional help or try out stuff like meditation, yoga. When you get 'that' feeling try slow breathing.

Slightly.

It's saved me from a crap load of beatings, sometimes it was really close but I managed to escape.

While I do admit I look over my shoulder quite frequently, and make sure I'm fully aware of the situation I'm in at all times, this isn't the problem.

You could always get jumped on the way to your friend, no? But if you still feel paranoid while at your friend's house then something is wrong...

I am, that's the problem. I'm worried that people I know - the ones that can ultimately cause the most damage - are plotting against me. In the situation I provided, I think the friend is the one who's going to pull something.

I presume this fear just comes from nowhere?

Like I said, try those two ways in my previous posts, maybe someone who's been in such a situation comes by and shares some info, but there's not much to do over a message board.

Just to clarify for the dear denizens of Zoklet, not trusting people is a smart move. But actually thinking that strangers are plotting against you is paranoia.

I also usually carry a knife on me when i leave the house, and sleep with one under my pillow, as well as having one stashed in my room in an easy to reach location. My thing, is i look in the windows of cars passing near my house, or parked outside of my house. Or if im on my way somewhere and any car passes me, i look in the window. This is to identify who's in there and whether or not they look like a spy -type person. I also am 100% positive that my computer is being monitered and accessed, and everything i type is seen by an unwanted third party.

there are funny times though, like when i was really stoned and on lots of adderall. I was blazing at a friends apartment and i was actually avoiding any talk of illegal activities in the off chance that someone was wearing a wire(my reasoning was 2 of them served, so better safe than sorry:P). And on the way home, i saw a shady looking car drive pass me and alarm bells started going off in my head( "ah shit, i was just chilling with ***** and ******, they both serve, i bet the cops have been waiting outside, oh fuck they saw me leave, theyre gonna arrest me!") So i spent the journey home switching streets every few minutes, going through backyards, and cutting down alleys. :bluecool:

You're causing your own self to be paranoid. Since you are aware you're over cautious with certain things, it's all under your control. So if you wanna stop you will. If you dont you wont.

By posting this, you're aware there is a problem that needs to be dealt with. I suggest if you want help with this see a psychologist.

The best way to find out if someone is trustworthy is to trust them.

I'd say there is an underlying cause to all of this that only a trained mental health expert can help you with

You don't know for sure if they are or aren't plotting against you. Just assume the worse and carry a handgun, you'll be safe.

So what you're a little bit paranoid. I get incredibly paranoid when someones walking behind me. It drives me nuts. Just live with it, smoke some weed, and relax

A paranoid is just someone in possession of all the facts.

Benzos or opiates ftw in this case... o and a psychologist too i guess.

Like somebody said, you're aware of it so you're still in control of it. Good luck.

I would suggest seeing a docotor about anxiety and maybe get referred to a psychologist and get prescribed anxiolytics.

Fuck medication. Just some hard alcohol and a daily trip to the gym should cure you.

Actually, marijuana can exacerbate paranoia. Especially if one is already prone to it.

I'm exactly like this. But I'm not sure its a problem or not. I think to not be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia means you have something wrong with you.

The more I'm on this planet and the more I come in contact with people the more evident it becomes that we are in fact animals, wild, crazy, violent animals at that.

I'm like you I at least carry a blade everywhere I go. Lately I've been carrying a kitchen knife because I can't find my pocket knife. But if I go out without that I feel I'm at some disadvantage, and some animal bigger and stronger than me can lash out for some idiotic reason or another and I need an equalizer.

So like others have said I'm not sure its a problem. It may suck to not be able to places without paranoia, but look at our world, go to wal-mart for half an hour and see how many people come through that door that honestly look mentally stable.

Look into klonopin and keep carrying your weapon of choice.

Normally I live in Toronto, however at the moment I live about an hour and a half north of Toronto.

Strange place to post this though.

Just 'cause you're paranoid, doesn't mean no one's out to get you.

Okay, this is actually a good thing.
It's only bad when you start losing your ability to function. If you feel safe no where, then yeah you've got something wrong. I've heard working on your root chakra can eliminate these feelings.

I don't blame you, I don't trust anyone. It's a good evolutionary mechanism though, as many people nowadays are not trustworthy anyways. You see, in any situation, I'd place my money on you surviving. Just carry some protection on you and you'll feel much better!
