Your opinions on them? Their training? Any stories you have? I'd like to know &Z's side.
You're not gonna make it, sorry.

All the ones I've met (Yes I've talked with a lot of people here) are fat or gay. SRSSLY. It's like they go "Holy shit, I'm a SEAL, I'm badass." then don't PT forever and get fat, or they love the cock. All the navy guys here are BUDS, fill their sleeves pretty well.

I've never known any SEALs, but most of the Delta Force guys I've met are bad-ass (except for that one).

It's funny how you meet tons of people in the military and they all seem to be in some type of "special forces" type role.
Now, I know there have got to be more cooks in the military than SF type guys.

It's hard as fuck, and I came into this thread expecting to make clubbing joke, but fuck you guys. My cousins husband is a complete badass and failed to get into training. You have a 1%. Good luck!

It's closer to 20% pass rate, actually. Most of the buds washouts that I've spoken to have been medically related (fucked up their knees/shoulders etc.,etc.) Supposedly (I stress that word) after hell week it gets easier, in that you can actually sleep and rest between evolutions, but that doesn't mean that once you get past buds, you're money, there's still alot of shit to get done, and less time to do it in. But, I have no first hand experience, so I can't say for sure.

Yes, but this man is posting on Zoklet, that automatically brings is pass rate down.

Yeah, this. 50% drop out during hell week, so that should tell you how disporportionatey difficult it is. I was SF in the US Army, and we cross-trained with a few SEALs periodically. They are about five times the operators we are. It's sort of embarressing, but they're cool about it.

I don't know much about the SEALs specifically but I have a lot of respect for all special forces. I might try for SAS one day, its about 10% success rate for the selection and then even more don't make it through training. Need to serve for a few years before it's even an option though.
The SAS is definately on the same level as SEALs and Delta.

I know, right? What is really fucking hilarious is that officially, the 1st SFOD-A doesn't exist, yet if you spend any time on an Army base you'll see recruitment information for the 1st SFOD.
And if you call your CO and ask about it, he'll deny knowing about it. If you ask the MP's what the unit does, they'll claim they handle logistics. Even though they're recruiting on paper, they still don't officially exist until you step into the room and they lock the door behind you.

I was in the Navy and I've actually talked to SEALS.
I know that they train out on that island off San Francisco I had a friend who was sent there as a secretary. I know that the training is very tough (Discovery or something did a show called Hell Week that's pretty accurate).
Here's a story that was told me to about Navy Seals.
The Navy has a training facility to simulate crash landing in enemy territory for air crewmen. They are basically left in a section of woods with their gear on...facilitators come and strip them naked, take them to a building and spend a few days using basic interrogation techniques like blowing smoke in their faces, sleep and food deprivation...and they slap them around a little. If the person makes it through without ever giving up any information besides what they're allowed to say they pass.
Needless to say they tried sending SEALS through this training as they often send spacial forces through a wide array of training exercises originally meant for other jobs. They soon stopped sending them there when the SEALS started setting up traps and capturing the "Facilitatators" and using interrogation methods on THEM. I thought that was pretty badass.
I also know for fact that they have sent teams on mock "assassination" missions to test Naval Ship Security...they send a group of seals to infiltrate a ship and get within point-blanc range of the captain. One guy on watch got a medal of honor for capturing a group of 4 seals and holding them at shotgun point when he caught them trying to sneak on the ship...he wouldn't believe them when they told them they were Navy Seals and kept them lying on their stomachs with a shotgun to their heads for a few hours.
Those are just some seastories that I heard during my time on the tin can.
Ok first of all seals are highly trained and very good at what they do. However the civilian world and even those in the military that dont have any specialized training tend to create these huge myths about bullshit that is way over exaggerated about them. I have worked with seals, they go to the same sniper school as i went to and I can tell you they put their pants on one leg at a time just like you and me. Yes, they have done and can do extraordinary things but some them of them pass off this "to cool for school" and "I'm better than everybody" attitude which makes them look jackasses and extremely hard to work with at times.

Yeah, that's SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) training, SF has to go through it too, though SEALs take a more advanced level of it. It's still a bitch though.
Navy SEALs are, in fact, total badasses. The reason they do this isn't because they're badass, however, it's because they have something to prove.
Being a SEAL is tough, very tough. They have BUD/s, Hell week, and their SEAL MoS. They also get paid according to their rank and rank along other ranks. The likelihood of ranking faster than another division is scarce, because everyone wants to be a seal and they usually rank up according to necessity. Why be a SEAL with the high chance of being killed, the low pay, and the probability being very high of sitting around in the desert? Because the guys in SEALs are total douchebags who wannabe "big, tough, badasses."
Personally, I'm in the USCG. I rank very fast and have more benefits available than the Navy does. I always have the option of going AST, which is our special forces division, but I'll remain an OS because- quite frankly- I think jumping into water from a hellicopter to fullfill some ridiculous movie-fantasy notion of what a man should be is fucking retarded. We don't need AST's because so many stupid-ass highschool kids take the slot and then they wind up compaining and trying to leave the second they realize what's happening is real. I'd much rather sit behind a computer screen, have a future outside of the military, a low likelihood of death, and an exciting job all while ranking up quickly, being paid more, and having my school paid for like I'm at work.
SEALs are total dumbasses, IMO

People don't go into SEALs or SF for the benefits, they do it because they are highly driven and want to accomplish extreme goals for their own personal satisfaction. You don't prove anything by being a SEAL or in SF, because the only people that really see that you are are other SEALs/Operators, which you are on an even playing field with. There is no recognition or glory from it, it is all personal satisfaction and achievement.
Which is why SEALs aren't dumbasses, they just aren't a pussy like you, who favors "safety" over accomplishment and skill.
And while there are needs for office shits like you, there is also a need for men who will get off their asses and do some relatively dangerious things. Like it or not, SEALs and SF are essential for this nation's security, including you and your desk job as well.
So go fuck yourself.

I'm still an active duty Marine Scout Sniper
Again, I've seen Seals do some bad ass shit in Afghanistan and yea I was pretty amazed and I've been thinking about trying out for BUD's afer my first enlistment with the Marines but everyone I've talked to who was thinking about doing the same as me told me to stay away from the seals and go either SF or Marine MSOB due to the fact that the pipeline is "pretty" much the same but the "atmosphere" is better. (now this may be because of rivalry or jealousy)
I think they call Delta Force "CAG" now and I've heard that even though they are no longer under the Army and now with the State Department (rumor on the street) they still due the majority of their recruiting from the Army rather from the rest of the military branches. Now this may be total bullshit but rumor has it that Marines are to much of hotheads (which is very true) and Seals think they are better than everybody and if you "take them out of the water" they are no better operators than any of the other special operation communities .
Some of my buddies before me told me horror stories about Seals in Ramadi Iraq doing some really stupid shit but snipers I know have done some really stupid shit as well so its all how you look at it. I really think it all depends on the team/unit as well as the leadership inside of it.

This. I suppose there are a lot of SEALs so there might be some jackasses, but I know that the SAS here doesn't look for people who think they're badass or have something to prove. There might be a lot of those who go to selection, but the ones who make it are usually the quiet achievers.

Fucking this. Depending on whether the leadership does their fucking jobs or not determines the efficiency of the unit.
United States Army Special Forces.
It sounds like they might just be jealous or competitive...SEALs that I worked with in Iraq were pretty down to earth and good operators. But again, their CO was on top of them, he didn't let them fuck around.
I definately think their training is the toughest of the SOF's, far more difficult than SF. Out of water, they've still got about as much training as SF, and they definately have more time on their weapons. But they are best on the water.
I only know Marine Recon training very vaguely except for Sniper School. What else do you guys get run through?
Yeah, I heard it's CAG now, but most guys I talk to still refer to it as Delta. I haven't heard about it being with the State Department, but I've been out for around two years now so I'm out of the loop. It wouldn't surprise me much though, they've always tried classifying it under different Departments/Agencies.
Ever in Iraq or Afghanistan?

Also mother fucker you are perhaps the biggest fucking pussy I have ever met. You probably sit behind your fucking computer screen playing Call of Duty wishing you were then one out there operating. I highly bet your also the cock sucker that wears his fucking dog tags out side his shirt in bars to pick up chicks and tell war stories but in fact you joined the coast guard and do absolutely nothing bad ass with your life. Your worse than these "stupid ass high school kids" because at least they had some ambition in life but you are perfectly comfortable with being a bitch.
I personally dont care if people dont want to join the military(and by military I mean real military, not the USCG) but dont knock what I do because you simply dont have the strength (and by strength I mean "not a fucking pussy) to do it.

This is very true. I know Special Forces and Delta require extensive psychological testing and I assume SEALs and SAS do, too. They won't take anyone with chips on their shoulders...

Yes I was in Afghanistan last year and probably returning here shortly.(next 3 to 4 months)
As a sniper I really only go to all the sniper schools. There is 5 of them and I'm about to go to advance school here shortly.
It really depends on your battalion if you get to go to any of the other schools like SERE (if i spelled that right) and maybe combat hunter but honestly dude that is extremely rare. Recon gets all the cool schools but all of my buddies over there tell me to stay far away from recon because it isnt the same anymore and to go to MSOB instead. My buddy's brother and a few of my old plt members went over and they love it. They are off by themselves across the base and away from the "good ole" Marine Corp bullshit getting to go to all the "cool schools" and shit.
Anyway...how the fuck is SF...is it the creme of the crop over there on the army side like everybody talks says?

Ah, I gotcha. Yeah, SERE was required for us and you're lucky you didn't have to have it. It's so annoying. Especially the Resist/Escape part of it. Getting slapped around and waterboarded for three days without sleep and then having to escape was some of the worst training.
Well, being the cream of the crop of the US Army isn't saying much, haha. Basic has gone to hell since I was in it. But anyways, SF is pretty solid. Like I said before, SEALs definately top our asses because they spend so much time on their guns in so many different environments, but I'd say SF training is some of the more difficult. Especially compared to Ranger School. We're better at ground insertions and extended operations because we have focus on one region and language, and we're pretty good at air insertions, but we spent no time on the water.
