you should check out Linklater's earler film, Slacker. It's got the same sort of flow - non-narrative, random people doing random things. There's a lot of weird stuff going on, but also some good thought-provoking discussion. And like Waking Life, watching it while "altered" would probably make various parts of it just that much more surreal and funny.

Also, Linklater is in (both) movies. In Waking life he's the guy in the back of the boat and the guy playing pinball - in Slacker, he's the guy at the very beginning.

But yeah. worth a watch if you're into that kind of movie.

Is this the same guy who did A Scanner Darkly? I know the style is very similar, but I don't know if it's the same guy. I loved Waking Life, but thought A Scanner Darkly was pretty terrible.

I liked A Scanner Darkly a bit more after seeing it a couple more times, but yeah - compared to Waking Life, it's pretty dismal. Apparently, linear plot development isn't really Linklater's thing...(he wrote the screenplay, adapted from a Phillip K. Dick story)

But yeah, Slacker is by that guy, but this film, being much earlier, is just live footage rather than rotoscoped. Also, he's the guy who did Dazed and Confused, which I'm sure you're familiar with.

I'll have to check it out now that you've mentioned it. I really liked Waking Life and I thought A Scanner Darkly was pretty good (but not nearly as good as Waking Life).
