The idea of six degrees of seperation is a usefull to keep in mind when one is pursuing resources of one kind or another.

The way I understand it, the idea basically boils down as an illustration of how interconnected everybody is to each other. One could send a message between any two recipients globally if it passed through 6 people.

I was exposed to the idea through some network marketing I was learning about, and could see some interesting possibilities of the way this could be applied.

It suggests to me that the distance between people and their sphere of influence is a much greater illusion then would appear. If somebody needed some kind of information or resource even if it isn't in their field of vision, it is actually very close.

I can't always see my house, but even when I away from it I still now it's there.

Even though you can't always see a way to obtain something, if you can work this, it should be attainable. You would have to put out a request to people in your immediate circle, and then expand out from there.

A stategy to identify the best intermediaries would help to improve this ideas efficiency......

I think this really helps one to hedge the odds in their favour if not statistically, psychologically.

Hmmm......I always knew it as every person is connected to every other person by 6 or less people. Such as Billy went out with Crystal, Crystal's Dad worked for Mike, Mike once sold a exercise bike to John, John once shook hands with Tom Hanks. Therefore Billy is connected to Tom Hanks.

Theoretically yes, however in practice i would argue not as likely, first of all it depends on what you define a connection as secondly it also depends on what you define that connection being maintained as.

Yeah this is how I understand the concept as and its veracity has been confirmed through facebook. (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=14436512661 if you want to take part)

Going back to your ideas though of resource attainment through networks of connection. Wouldn't it be kind of like grasping in the dark? You may know somebody who sold an exercise bike to somebody else who has the resource you need. But how would you know that he had it? In my marketing class I also learned that by building networks one can learn to solve problems or find business solutions much faster.

What I don`t understand is how you would work this "six degrees of separation" to your advantage. When you use networks of people, I don't think it goes much past 1 or 2 degrees, as I feel it would be impossible for me know anything about someone 3,4,5, or 6 degrees from me

Its interesting though because you are probably right, if you are trying to acquire a certain resource (as you say) its probably alot closer than you think.

You know may not know about who I am, but you are able to use what information you have about me to make a connection, through abstraction using the powers of the intellect. Prior to your post, you were much further away from me in physical time and space. Your ability to use the technology of the internet overcomes the physical limitations of traditional communication.

For the purpose of this illustration, I define connection as an exchange of energy existing between 2 patterns of information. This definition enables one to form abstract tools in order to open the door to the creative process.

To work this you must consider where the data is, and analyze the odds of connecting to it based on the difference between your immediate and enviroment and your perception. You are grasping at straws but elements of the unknown though not percievable can be calculated by evaluating different elements and doing your best......
