View Full Version : this is of the utmost importance in my life
Ok, this news is bigger than LOST. But tangentially related.
So, J.J. Abrams, the guy behind LOST and Cloverfield and Alias, is now working on some sort of film project based on Stephen King's The Dark Tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Tower_%28series%29#Film_adaptation). No word on whether it's a movie or series, or whether it's a direct film version or simply a related story.
I hope it's a show of several seasons - the story stretches across 7 novels, which would be an appropriate number of seasons, in my opinion. It's just so damn epic...
I hope Stephen King will have a large say-so in production, writing, and/or editing, to assure a quality product by the creator's standards. If King was willing to sell the rights to Abrams for $19, I'm sure he's confident in his selection of auteur.
I hope that it doesn't suck, because that would, in my mind, be more tragic than finding out that all 6 seasons of LOST where, for example, Vincent (http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Vincent)'s dream.

I've heard a lot of people reference how Lost was inspired by Dark Tower.

If I'm not just too drunk to understand that comment, then I have a newfound respect for King. I got bored of his books a long time ago, but that doesn't mean he couldn't easily juice them for all retarded amounts of profit.

This sounds awesome.
However...was Lost good? I saw the first season only.

Watch the first episode of season 2 and see if you don't get re-hooked. It's not a show for everyone, but I know plenty of people that love it.

Stephen King has been known to sell the rights to make his books into movies for very cheap. When the film-maker is skilled, or when he just thinks the guy will do justice to his idea, he usually sells them the rights for literally a few dollars. I'm sure he collects royalties from the final product, but it's cool that he's willing to make it so cheap for determined people to translate his work into film.

the books were good untill King got eager to finish and started writing himself in...edit that bullshit out and the movie will be full of win
I doubt that King will want any control over their vision for The Dark Tower and I'm not really sure if people will be able to make the necessary suspension of disbelief to accept actually seeing some of the things in the novels. The story is rather outlandish, though epic and excellent.

Lost blows such huge dick. They just keep making shit up to keep the series going. Like, an island warping through time and space? Gimme a fucking break.

You realize that they decided all of those "made up" things like 4 years ago, right? By the beginning of the third season, they'd figured out all of the plot points up tot he season 6 finale, which isn't going to air for a year. Nobody's "making it up" as they go, it's just that the plot is suitably complicated that there's not much room for casual viewers.
Anybody that thinks something sucks just because it's too complicated for them to understand should probably just stick to watching old "Friends" re-runs. Don't worry, there's nothing complicated or interesting like time-travel there, buddy.

Don't get your hopes up too much. A good amount of Stephen King's books were made into the worst low budget looking, made for TV movies.
Hopefully Dark tower will be one of the awesome ones.
Has anyone signed up for IMDBpro for the production details (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0964507/)? It's free for 14 days. If so, post some details(does it cover just the first book, actors, etc.)

Introducing time travel to a series in order to make it "complicated" for viewers so they can then gloat about their ability to comprehend it, is the best fucking idea for pulling in the delusional retard populus ever.
Their ratings must be now be through the roof after all these idiots that think they're intellectually gifted started watching it and bragged about it to friends.
Your life must be a sad shithole.
