View Full Version : I need new games

I recently played Mirrors Edge and it was great, WAY too short, but really good.
Anyways, I'm looking for First person shooters, mainly.
I already beat:
-FO3(Not every quest, I'm still playing it and I'm downloading the expansion right now...)
-COD4( Don't like COD 5...)
-Assasins Creed(Got bored of it)
-Dead Space(Still playing it)
-Mass Effect(Too... repetitive)
-GOW(Awesome game. I want more violence like this one)
Uh, and a bunch more, I just don't know what I want. Any good games you guys would recommend?
EDIT: Oh yeah, for the PC.

I liked Mass Effect, but I like games where you're in:
A) A post-apocalyptic hell hole trying to just survive
or B) One more soldier trying not to get their head blow off.
In Mass Effect you're a captain and a Specter... so you could basically go and do anything you'd like... bah.

I'm going to install the expansion tonight. :D
And Cliche Guevara, I'll probably try Spore. I haven't heard very good things about it... but I guess I'll give it a go. I installed and played Sins of a Solar empire for a little bit and I liked it. I'll reinstall it tonight and give it a go see how I like it.
And I haven't tried medieval totar war, I might check that out also. :)
Cheers.

Yeah, STALKER falls directly under your "A)" category. I recommend that.
Also, if you don't have it already and you want the best co-op multiplayer game on the market, pick up Left 4 Dead. Easily the best game of 2008. Not so fun in singleplayer, but the multiplayer experience is sublime.
And even though it's nothing like what you've said you wanted, download the World of Goo demo and give it a shot. A truly amazing game that's unlike anything else out there.

And L4D is awesome too, but I don't have a good Internet connexion at home... so I can't play multi player games...

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering you're the guy ordering people around and whatnot.
You're not just another guy trying not to get his head blown off when you're telling everyone else where to attack and defend.

You obviously don't know much about the game then.
Sure, you may be a higher rank than your men but that doesn't make you physically stronger by any means. At the highest difficulty there's no difference between NPCs and you.

Sort of back on-topic, I'd recommend the original F.E.A.R. to the OP if he hasn't played it yet. The second one's okay, but it's just not as good as the first. I dunno what it is...there's just something missing in the second. It's just doesn't have that same OMFGWHATTHEFUCKWASTHAT atmosphere.
The multiplayer, which I believe is still a free download, is also fucking awesome. Slo-mo deathmatch ftw.

The "more mature gamers" that you are referring to are what I call gaymers. They take their "hardcore" gayming way too seriously. I just take the time to give them some insight what real fun is all about. They just don't learn. All they ever speak of is finding out where I live and doing gay shit to me.

I can't help it. New games just don't appeal to me. And I'm sick of replaying old games. They're nothing but nostalgia now. I don't get the same fun I did out of them years ago. Where I could play a video game for over 24 hours in one sitting before, I have a hard time playing a game for over 30 minutes now.
Everything is just more of the same. Especially with shooters. I've played so many fps games over the years, no matter what new game comes out, after a day or two of online play I get real good at it, it gets too boring.
I still like multiplayer against people I know in real life, but they're now all either too busy, married or in jail. And the only games my wife plays are those retarded Spyro the Dragon games. Some of them have co-op, but it's so damn awfully made it makes me shit myself every time I play it.

Yeah, I can understand that to an extent.
I've actually never been the type of guy who could play any one game for hours upon hours at a time, so maybe that's why I'm not quite as burnt out as you. I try to keep things interesting, and have as much variety as I possibly can.
There definitely was a period where I got really sick of games for a while though, and I contemplated selling every current system I had and just giving it up altogether. I have no idea why really, it just seemed like the best course of action to me. Of course, apathy won out, and instead of selling them I just let my consoles sit there unused for months. Then one day I picked up the controller again and I said to myself "Why the fuck did I ever stop?".
I don't know, I've played a lot of games from every genre under the sun, and every time I get that feeling like I've done it all something new comes along and brings me back to the glory days. I especially enjoy a game like Bit.Trip Beat which smacks me in the face with it's difficulty and leaves me replaying levels like I'm 6 years old and sacrificing an afternoon to Double Dragon again.
God, I wish more games were like that. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me but I love pattern recognition and replaying levels until I've perfected them. I remember when Stuntman came out and people gave it shit, it was all "you have to memorize the levels, you just replay them over and over again to get it right" and all I could think was "sounds like a damn good time to me".
Anyway, this is my latest sleep-deprived, drug-induced post about videogames. I hope everyone who read it enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Why don't you play scroll shooters, like Ikaruga? You can never get too good at those and they always give a good challenge.
I'm currently playing Burnout Paradise on the PC. Alongside that I'm trying to get into X³: Terran Conflict. If you're somewhat familiar with the X games, you need like 3 months to get into them. Which in my case, I don't have the time or patience for. And this is a pity as I love space sims and X³: TC is the prettiest space sim ever. The graphics engine is really, really sweet.

I never had what they have. I always hated gaymers, even when I played video games non-stop. I never joined any clan, guild and whatnot. To me, it was always about fun and nothing else. And pissing off the people who took it too serious was always a part of that. Simply go on a server and put some idiot's clan tag in your username. Within moments, you'll be all lol @ "im going to find out where u live and kill u" routine.

I do play Ikaruga, but only the first level, over and over again. Which is why I like the demo on LIVE, because I don't have to pay for it. When I had the full game for DC I usually just ended up playing the first level over and over again anyway, because shit started getting ridiculous in the second level. My problem is in any score based game with an attainable "perfect score" I'm not happy with myself until I can get that perfect score. So in Ikaruga, if I miss one chain, I'm restarting the level. To get that good at Ikaruga I'd have to play it all day every day, and I'm not making a shmup my job.

Burnout Paradise is pretty damn fun on PC. I run it at 1920x1200 with the settings nearly maxed (there's one setting that doesn't seem to do anything and cuts my performance in half so I keep it off) and it runs pretty well. I'm sure you don't believe me though right?
I tried one of the X games but it's just not for me. I have a tendency to get all jazzed up about sims, trying to psych myself into liking them, but it never works out. It's happened with the space combat sims like X, with some flight sim I tried, and with a couple racing sims. It's pretty much what you said, the time and patience deal, basically the same thing as Ikaruga. There comes a point where you realize you'll be putting so much into a game with no real payoff and you ask yourself, is this worth it? The only games I'm willing to play endlessly are games where it's just as much about the friends I'm playing with as it is about playing the game itself.
I remember I downloaded that Ferrari game Yu Suzuki made and busted out my old shitty Mad Catz wheel which I got on clearance for $15 and told myself I was going to play it until I could drive a Ferrari like a pro. I played for like 2 laps and I haven't touched it since.

I have seen people fail hard with all sorts of hacks. I don't fucking know how they manage to do it, but they do. If your kill total is the lowest at the end of the game, and you've been cheating, you do indeed suck at life.
And they will bitch and wine the most when it's not working out for them. They will accuse you of cheating yourself. They'll tell you to stop fucking camping, using proximity mines, or whatever. Then they'll bitch and wine that you need to be kicked off the server. If all else fails, they'll simply spam the chat until an admin boots them.

Burnout Paradise should run smoothly as it isn't really that much of a looker. Don't get me wrong, the game looks nice. It's just that it contains a lot of really low res textures. Not that it matters though, as you're zooming past everything at god knows how many miles an hour. Plus, it runs perfectly on 16xAA and all the other anti-aliasing settings maxed out. It makes the cars look absolutely sweet.
I just feel like they could've done a bit more with the bikes.
The only sim game I played for a really long time is Total Air War F-22. It also had a sweet multiplayer. Oh, and Eve Online. Eve Online is a sweet ass game, but in the end it's a bit retarded that you have to pay that much for it. They say you can pick up the PvP within a month and this is somewhat true, but if you want to do some really fun stuff, you have to play at least a year. Two years if you want some kickass T2 ship and equip it properly. Even if you subscribe for an entire year, that's still €260 for two years. That's a bit too much to spend on a game. And as CCP makes it pretty much impossible to emulate their server, there won't be any private servers any time soon. Not that they would be any fun. Most WoW private servers can be way more fun than the Blizzard servers. But with Eve, the universe is just too big to put it on a private server.

I just got done with a free trial of that game. I really enjoyed it but, like most mmo's, I just seemed to run out of stuff to do after a couple of weeks. Eve Online does seem to do a lot of things better than most mmorpg's. I thought it was a pretty good game but, in the end, not rly worth the price they were asking per month.
Although I did notice that you can buy these 30-day pilot licenses with in-game money. Usually about 300 mil. I don't know the exact details but I guess that people pay real money for these pilot licenses so that they can sell them in-game for shitloads of cash?

What CCP did to combat the illegal online sale of ingame money, is give people the chance to sell their ingame money for game time. So yes, you can play the game for free if you make shitloads of money. There are two "simple" ways to get super rich in the game. You train up for trading, and spend your time doing boring trade, or you pirate. People spend millions of their ingame money on ships they use for PvE combat, which is retarded. Their equipment means jack shit in PvP, so they can be easily killed by a relatively new player. One step into 0.4 and they're toast. Sometimes, you see people flying insanely expensive ships and never leave high sec, thinking they're safe there. If you have something that's worth, high sec won't save you. If your ship is equipped with 500mil of stuff, then sacrificing a 20mil PvP vessel or two is nothing.
The big problem with piracy is that there are plenty of people who can keep a serious grudge against you. Some corporations will spend billions of their hard earned cash on silly wars just to get back at you for destroying one or two of their ships. Protip: be nice in game to others. I don't mean not blowing them up. I mean when you socialize with people. Don't talk trash and just be kinda laid back. People will help you out if you're not a stupid ass, no matter how much you yaarrrrrr!
