You've all probably heard what we're doing, so fuck all that shit.

What are key things we need to think about when designing the layout of a home? Right now we're focused on saving energy as much as possible. Scooping up prevailing winds for cooling and dodging the sun if we can seem to be the biggest. Being easily expandable is something we'll need. Compartmentalized building, like all the bedrooms in one wing, living area another, and a work area. lordnitrox threw out an idea for a T shaped building which would serve all of those things.

Small things like rain water catchment systems, separation of living space from the giant heat radiating greenhouse, these can make a big difference. I know we're missing stuff 'cause we don't really have an idea what goes in to this so I hope someone who has experience can help us out.

Read the &T:BB House thread?
And I drew up some great floorplans for a 60X80 steel building, will post tonight.

This doesn't really tell you how to construct the house, but floor plans are essential for efficient use of space and shit. Watcha think?:D

just use a couple outhouses. Southfacing windows are great for getting as much sun energy as possible in the winter, and a small overhang can block that same energy out in the summer. consider doing a straw bale construction.
