Can anyone suggest anything that I might do. A friend of mine is going into game design and wants to hold off on buying a good PC for a year. Is there any USB graphics system (or firewire for that matter) that would enable Oblivion to run?

they make usb graphics cards?
You can't call a graphics adapter a graphics card, because it's not a card.

even if it existed a 480mb bus would not be enough to supply data and send data to the cpu/ram, to pay games successfully.

Kinda suspected it wouldn't happen. Thanks anyway.

Hey RDP why aren't you a mod anymore?
I'm also kinda surprised you may have thought such a thing might exist, but yeah... my mind has cooked up stupider ideas I thought might work/exist... :p
480 mbps is not nearly fast enough bus speed to work as a graphics adapter. I WISH you could just plug things into the USB port to increase graphics power...
Maybe when USB 3.0 comes out...

They do exist:

...but aren't very high performance. Maybe if you really, really, wanted a second screen to run IRC on it would be fine, but not for gaming - they're aimed at adding a second screen as opposed to adding more graphics power. As the others have said, bandwidth and latency of USB isn't fast enough.

There is a PSP hack that you can use to add the PSP as a second monitor. It runs through USB, but cannot do any 3D type stuff at all of course. It's completely impractical, but a cool concept. I guess if you wanted to have a really ghetto second monitor for IRC or something it would be useful...

I knew they did exist, but had not kept up with their capacity. I also mentioned firewire. When google didn't turn anything up I came here.
As for the modding, everything got jumbled on the move I guess, the near future will sort things out.

I can comment on this: Zok said that the old Totse mods will have the ability to be modded here, but they have to contact him about it. (And I'm sure he'd want to verify it's the same person. Just having the same name isn't quite enough...)

Interesting little thing. I haven't seen that before.
However, it looks like it's only compatible with a few select models of Fujitsu laptop. I haven't seen any other laptops with a PCIe connector...I guess that's their way of getting the data in and out fast enough.

Yeah, I was browsing ATI's website and saw it, and thought "Ah, this would be hilarious to use with a netbook!" Then I quickly saw that it appears to only work with said type of laptops. :fap:

Ah yes, that makes sense, I figured. Hey look you're a moderator now! Cool.
I wonder if a graphics accelerator would be possible with USB 3.0... whenever that comes out.
