Okay im currently studying Science at uni and ive been considering the option of Working part time Army Reserves. I wasnt thinking anything to major , Just a rifleman or something similair. Ive read there currently posted in wollongong or holsworthy for reserve and apparently its 30 days training at kapooka then every tuesday night and ocassionally weekends.
Sounds like a great experience and a chance to get some taxfree moola. Is there any hidden catches ? does anyone have any experience or knowledge with the reserves in australia ??

I've been through the reserves in Canada. It can't be all that different. are you thinking of going as an officer, or non commissioned?

Theres a chance you could be deployed. But i'm not sure how common that is in Australia. I'd go for it you might really enjoy it.

i looked into the reserves, but the permanants earn the big cash, youll train and train and lift heavy shit onto trucks, good part is you dont have to stay, but if you make a career of it your better off becoming full time.
that being said become a trady reserve, at first they get shit all money but a few months down the line they get 50 bucks an hour after being qualified, but since you have a brain just become an officer full time, 45k off the bat and all your training paid for (unlike the police)

oh and you wont get deployed, its rare even for full timers, we only have like 3 operations going with maybe 1500 troops, compared to our 50000 size army youd be lucky to get deployed

I think you can probably tell the officers that you want to be deployed and if they need to put anyone out you'll be first on the list.

you think, i always assumed there was a long list of full timers who are trying to get deployed and a reserve trying would be second best compared to a full timer, as the numbers go theres a lot more troops stuck in aus then deployed so i think being deployed would be in high demand (if i signed up as inf officer id be damned before i sit at base all telling men to train)

They will take full-timers first. If you have a trade i'd say you have a better chance.
