For purely reference purposes only ;), where or what method would you say is the best for downloading software such as Microsoft Office and Photoshop, etc, for the best chance of avoiding getting caught? Ever since a couple of my friends got caught for downloading music, and one at to cough up $1000 to settle it, I've been very paranoid.

Cheers.

Remember people, keep this theoretical and DO NOT post direct links to downloads and torrents. Those are against the rules here. It's ok to say "use torrents", but not to say "go to www.illegalsoftwarehere.com"

The best thing to use is torrents, through a proxy if you're paranoid.

Theoretically speaking I could manage to get both items you mentioned [;)] via torrents although if anyone wanted to avoid being caught they could theoretically use a neighbours Wi-Fi, or connect to the Internet via the Onion Network [Tor/PeerGuardian Etc.].

I have serious issues with Bittorrent with my router. I've done all the port forwarding stuff and I generally struggle to get above 20kb on my 2mb connection. All firewalls are turned off, etc.

However, the torrent I'm currently using only has 30 seeds - is that too low to achieve higher speeds?

20kb/s should be fine if you leave your computer downloading overnight. I frequently do that with the crap internet I get here in uni halls.

One more thing, which isn't exactly related to the initial post. Once I've downloaded Office, I want to install it on another computer. In theory, all I need to do is burn all the files from the download onto a CD, and then run it on the other computer, click the "setup.exe" file and all will be away?

All you would have to do is take the files you download from one computer, and put them on the next, then click install and you're all set.

Theoretically if you were to be a bad pirate then you would not need a 5.25" bay occupying DVD drive, you could just mount it using daemon tools.

This

Took out my DVD R/RW to connect an extra hard drive to store all of my "demo" software and "freeware".

I should also mention that all this "in theory" talk just makes you all look like fucking imbeciles. :)
Not my rule.

Don't use Tor for filesharing, you ignorant fuck.

Why do you suggest not, one with infinite wisdom?

The fact that it puts 'enormous strains' on their network?

Also I don't recommend Warez. A lot of the files I've downloaded have caused me a lot more trouble than it is worth.
