Can't wait for this to come out. Metric has been one of my favorite bands since... probably high school. They're definitely my favorite band to come out of Broken Social Scene. However, I will say that their follow up to Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? was pretty uninspired.

I'm hoping to see a return to form with this one.

edit: Here's the first released track of the new album:

Good stuff. I love their brand of indie pop. Old World Underground is one my top albums. And they're Canadian :D.

Have you heard Help I'm Alive? It's on the new album but was released early (or maybe it was leaked...).

Yeah, I just edited my post to include it. I have to say, it hasn't struck me right away, but maybe it's a grower.

I love the deep rumbling opener and chorus. But then 1:20 rolls around and it breaks into some some kind of cheesy pop guitar strumming. Kinda ruins an otherwise great song.

Since you know BSS and Metric, I'm sure you're heard of Stars. What do you think of them? They hold a special place in my heart because I credit them with breaking my indie cherry :D.

I completely agree, I think the guitar part is what kills the song.

Yeah, I've been a big fan of Stars since their Heart days. They're pretty cheesy, granted, but something about them feels earnest in a way that most cheesy pop doesn't. Set Yourself On Fire is easily their best album, I'd say. I can't help but get up and dance when one of those songs comes on.

I saw them recently here in Singapore. It was annoying because it was in a venue with seats, which meant no dancing. Well, I wrote a blog post about it, so I'll just post that:

Oh my god, I had no idea Metric were working on a new album.
April can't come soon enough! :D

Meh, "Help I'm Alive" didn't strike me either. It's not bad, but it would fit better lost in the middle of the album, not released as the first single. Where it stands in relation to Old World Underground and Grow Up And Blow Away, I'm not sure....more rock than Grow Up, but a lot slower than Old World Underground.

@AtrainV: what didn't you like about Grow Up? I thought it was fantastic, but I can see someone really liking Old World yet being turned off by Grow Up.

^It depends on what he means by the "follow up".

Old World Underground was released in 2003. Live It Out was released in 2005. Grow Up was released in 2007, but all the songs were recorded before Old World Underground.

Aside from maybe 3 songs, Live it Out was pretty boring.

Yeah, ObsidianZ got it. Live it Out was pretty mediocre. I have nothing against Grow Up and Blow Away. I wouldn't say it's near the quality of OWU,WAYN?, but it's got some pretty catchy songs (title song and Raw Sugar come to mind immediately.

Oh god, I completely removed Live It Out from my memory. I agree with you on its mediocrity.

Although I'm not a devoted fan of Metric I do like them and have gave all their albums a listen. In general I'm more of a fan of their upbeat stuff. When I first heard Help I'm Alive I thought Metric was going to make another mediocre album. I didn't like that single much. But after several days of radio stations of their native city, Toronto repeatedly ear fucking that song in my head it started to grow on me. Which is weird because that usually doesn't happen, either I like a song or I don't. Anyways, not getting my hopes of for fantasies but i'm looking forward to it.

I've been waiting for the longest time for another metric album!
I think my favorite so far is Grow up and Blow Away, great music
and great lyrics.

Just thought I'd mention that this album was leaked yesterday...

If you enjoyed Metric's previous works, or the recent "It's Blitz" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs (similar sounds, in my opinion), chances are you'll like this one.

Enjoy! :)

Yeah, I just got it. I haven't given it a concentrated listen cause I've been busy, but it sounds promising. I agree with Monocle, too, that I'm starting to like Help I'm Alive a bit more than I did at first.

Just had my first playthough.

Pretty solid album. It feels a bit more mainstream, but then Metric always sorta sounded like they were timidly trying to break into mainstream.

Fav songs so far: Gold Guns Girls and Blindness.

Man. Every time I listen to this, it just gets better and better. It's definitely a grower.
