Short straw? that would be almost inevitable during a war! its highly likely that your unit will be deployed if you join the army during a war. so the guy had a death wish or was looking for kicks "bravo"

what a fucking waste of what sounds like a decent young man.

Nuclear option would not work on Iraq because america is there for Oil, its an oil war for fucks sake, people on both sides are dying cos american voters get upset when the price goes up on their tank of gas.

why else would the USA be there? regime change?? please.

I was in the army and 19 when the first gulf war started late 1990, I use to have 17 year old kidiots taking the piss out of me and shouting "I AM PROUD TO SERVE MY COUNTRY AND FIGHT IN IRAQ"

funny same guys came back from their tours and actually apologized to me! (which takes a lot of balls in my book) they basically agreed and thought that the whole thing was about oil.
and what really pissed them off was the prince of brunei giving every serving soldier $1,000 bonus, which greatly pleased many a soldier, unfortunately the top brass in the uk turned round and said
"we are not mercenaries we cannot accept the money"
so why where they there? cos saddam invaded kuwait our friends, why are they our friends? oil.

the whole world runs on oil and Iraq has a hell of a lot of it, if you don't control it then you sure as hell don't want your enemies to control it.

the reason for being there cos of regime change is nonsense, their are loads of corrupt/bad leaders in the world, USA doesn't invade them.

fighting over natural resources is nothing new, It fucking annoys me when people aren't honest about it.

Thank God, finally an intelligent post.

I would have to agree it was likely a significant factor. And from a purely selfish utilitarian point of view, the War will probably have helped us in the very very long run. But for now we're having to deal with the blown money, blown lives, and the generation of vengeful Muslims that will looking to kick our asses first chance they get.

He didn't deserve to die, but no one should feel sorry for him. It was his decision to join the military and possibly throw his life away fighting a war that previously had nothing at all to do with him or his life.

My condolences to his friends and family, but maybe they should have tried harder to talk him out of the military. Surely his recruiter, the general "Support Our Troops!" populous and the buddies he made when preparing to join the military poisoned his mind into thinking it was something worth dying for; I'm positive he could have used differing opinions on the matter.

Some people join the army for the opportunities. Some people join it for the sheer thrill. Some people join it because they believe their country is doing the right thing. I'd like to propose a different view.

When YOUR country is at war, despite whatever sequence of events got it there, YOU as an able bodied citizen are partially responsible for it. Why? Because your votes, your conversations, your actions, and your beliefs led to your country pursuing a certain course of action. You, through positive or negative effort, with your actions made certain events come to pass. Why? Because we live in a democracy, of the people, by the people, and for the people where the will of the people is reflected in the actions of the government. Did you forget that?

You are making a very serious mistake if you think that once a certain course of action is initiated that just sitting around bitching and whining vainly to strangers is going to get things done. You either create momentum to pursue a new course of action or shut the fuck up. Meanwhile you still fucking support your country. It is still the most free nation on this earth. That is why an American can just as easily go to war and just as easily denounce it. Because that is the definition of an American. You must support your country just as much as you support your beliefs because you understand that only in your country may you have the freedom to do so. Those are the principles we were founded on.

Now when it comes to war there are two ways to end it: either win or go home. If you cared enough you pathetic lemmings you would have joined up to speed that process. Patriotism? Fine. I call it duty.

Cowards.

elf omg
09-15-2009, 12:26 AM
Why? Because we live in a capitalist democracy, of the money, by the money, and for the money where the will of the people with the money is reflected in the actions of the government.

Fixed.

Maybe we should talk about this elsewhere though.

Fixed.

Maybe we should talk about this elsewhere though.

Maybe you should go spend more time with friends. Oh wait, you've told them all to commit suicide.

Cowards.

Stop trying to turn this simple memorial topic into a flag-waving, gun-toting, vein-bulging, right-wing political statement. Have some respect, please.

'Tis a shame. May the flying spaghetti monster embrace you with his noodly appendages and lavish you with many virgins(female, under 25), and eternal peace and satisfaction.

A moment for Stop.

The views I expressed in that post are older than either party. Actually, older than all political parties you mouth breathing troglodyte. Older than fucking Rome.

Fuck, as soon as a guy comes in here with opinions that aren’t so vaguely, vapidly, conformist leftist someone has a problem with the opinion that this guy did not die in vain.

Flag waving, gun toting…what a stupid thing to say. And apart from your narrow stereotypes, so fucking irrelevant.

Fuck you too.

I asked nicely to keep your politics to yourself yet you insist upon besmirching the memorial of a fallen soldier with your angry partisanship. Good job... you're quite a patriot.

How conspicuous that I'm the only one singled out for my philosophy (not politics you douche) when a handful of usurpers of this dead mans cause and intentions parade like jesters. I am angry at inanity and ignorance in this mans memorial thread, not the political views of the collective dumb fucks.

Either way, as bigoted and hyprocritical as you are...you're right. No more complaints from me.

RIP Stop

I do agree that the war in Iraq was fucking useless, but that does not mean that we should not pay our respects and be sad that we lost a comrade. He did what he believed was right, and anyone that does that should get props. (Except those that commit crimes.)

Can you guys please take this argument out of this thread. If not for respect for the dead, then just because it's pretty redundant. Not just you TruthWielder, but cosmo as well. Please. Have some common courtesy while you guys start a thread to argue in.
