I'm willing to bet that we will terraform mars in the next century. If we don't, we will definatly risk the affects of overpopulation, but even then I doubt we'll go extinct. Even if humans are reduced to a thousand people, we would still survive. Unless there was something apocalyptic that made earth uninhabitable.

I give civilisation as we know it less than a century. Depending on what happens after that, we might bumble along merrily as hunter-gatherers again (after the death of 80% of population necessary to make such an existence sustainably) Or we could just go out in a nuclear mushroom cloud leaving nothing but cockroaches and fruit flies to succeed us.
