That's exactly how I feel. Now, when friends ask me if they should use Linux, I tell them no, unless they are actually willing to dive into man pages and research on forums for a good portion of their time.
Hell, sometimes, I even think I should just go back to Windows and run cygwin so I can continue to do all the command line stuff without any of the headaches.

It gives you headaches because your new to it.
I hardly ever use Windows, except to play games and watch movies.
But when a problem comes up under Windows, it does give me headaches.
Not because it's 'harder', but because I'm not familiar with it.
For example, I had a problem with a video game recently, very low fps, it took me a week before I found out, by looking in PM (regmon), that it couldn't find alot of sound files, I reinstalled the game and now no issues.

depends on what they do. like if a friend is just gonna use firefox and pidgin, why not, they can screw around with the package manager. just tell em not to go snooping

I've been using linux for a decade now. It gets easier.
