Calling all chess players.

Anyone &z members play any chess online? I made the mistake of taking up Pogo as my service. May god have mercy on your soul if play on this site. Sure there are some good players to be found, but for the most part it is nothing but hordes of shitty-playing, whining, cheating sore-losers, who will do anything they can to rob you of your rating points instead of trying to take something from the game. These honorless, soulless bastards than love nothing more than to ridicule you endlessly for having swindled you with their little chess programs that play for them. Yes, there are many players that aren't even actually playing the game. They just want to take your hard-earned Expert rating so they can gain their own Expert or Master rating to....er...show off to Pogo? They even go so far as to disconnect you from the server simply to take your useless points(I guess these must fit in well with their useless lives).

Anyways, who else is playing online? Can anyone recommend a decent site to play on, with real players who are actually playing for the joy and enriching-nature of the game? I'd rather suck a dead dog's dick than play on Pogo again, and there aren't any chess clubs in my area that I am aware of.

Another thing: wouldn't a chess sub-forum be awesome? We could discuss individual openings, tactics, positions, even play one-move a day games, if anyone would be interested in such a game. Not sure how many chess players are around.

Used to practice against computers. I think the site I used had multiplayer, too, but it had a weird account system that I didn't want to bother. It was very basic, I think they did Sudoku, too.

I really love Chess, I feel like an intellectual while playing (Even if I suck, which I most likely do)

I used to play on http://gameknot.com/ quite often. I haven't played in a long time, but it was a good site from what I remember.

I just started using http://freechess.org and I like it a lot so far. :)

You can either play from your browser or download a program to play. They include download links to tons of chess programs for any operating system that are compatible with their server. Also, most of these apps have a lot of different chess engines you can download with varying degrees of difficulty if you'd rather play a computer than an online opponent.

My operating system came with a program called E-Board that runs off of FICS. The few games I've played were pretty good, but I havn't rly played enough to gauge the quality of the other players. I havn't met any assholes there yet.

There's other free servers that are pretty decent and also highly compatible with various chess programs, but FICS is supposed to be the best and oldest.
