So I am going to read this book soon, what should I expect? The band "Fall of Efrafa" bases all of their songs off the books and the religious/political themes in the book, yet I found the book in the kids section at the book store.

It was probably in the kids section because it's about a bunch of anthropomorphic rabbits. Anyway, I've heard it's very good, your post actually just reminded me about a recommendation I got many years ago. Maybe when I get some time I'll read it too. :)

I've never read it, but I hear it's good.

There's a movie too.

Its a really good book, Think lotr with cute bunnies and it addresses alot of sociopolitical opinions of the author apparently. My parents read it aloud to me when I was a kid so I wouldn't know of all these themes presently apparently in the book.

I'll have to check this out. From what you're saying it sounds like it'd be an interesting exercise for the mind. This also reminds me of Alice In Wonderland, the books (or whatever they are called. Alice's Adventure in Wonderland, maybe? I don't know.) Anyone know if they are any good? If so I'll have to check those out as well.

I remeber being slightly traumatised from watching the cartoon when I was 8 or 7....

i've never wanted to read this book because i once saw my gay cousin reading it, and the title and cover just turned me off from it. "watership down?" rabbits? what is this nonsense? FUCK YOU.

Probably my favorite book. There are not really any deliberate themes in it though. The author formulated the story over several years while telling made up short stories to his kids on long car trips. He even admits he did not intend for any underlying deep meaning. However there are many themes in the book. Such as the destructive properties of man and many more. Its more of an entertaining read then anything else. After a few chapters you really start to root for the rabbits and then you don't want to put it down.

I loved that book and have read it several times when I was younger. It has actually made me cry. Weird I know, rabbits and all.. but it is wonderfully written, the characters are great, and I had fun with the different terminology for things and the interesting rabbit facts scattered throughout..

Everyone knows they don't have books in Africa.

This is one of my favorite books from childhood. Characters are well developed, good story line, etc. I recommend reading it.

I haven't read Watership Down yet, but I read Plague Dogs by the same author, Richard Adams, a couple of years ago, and it was brilliant.

Never read the book but I love the film. Lot darker than you would expect a cartoon about talking rabbits to be.

The authors other work, Plauge Dogs is also very good and heart breaking.
