View Full Version : That's right, you can now buy air.
I just saw a commercial for this. Apparently they're trying to sell it as an "energy boost." I can't believe people actually buy this shit.

I fully agree - there's a whole slew of products that piss me off (HeadOn, ActiveOn, etc), especially weight loss products marketed over TV (like Lipozene). It sickens me to think that so many people are being tricked by this shit. I mean, if you're willing to accept that all you have to do is take a pill to lose weight, you're probably also pretty emotionally fragile (about your weight, at least) which is why I think it's that much worse when they take advantage of people like that.

What most people don't understand is that in the air we breathe, oxygen makes up only about 20%. With the majority being made up of nitrogen, and the other percent made up of traces of other elements. Breathing in 100% oxygen clearly isn't the way nature intended it.

i hate to be that guy, but
the more o2 you get, the more energy you have, people who breath through oxygen tanks, they absorb less air, so a higher oxygen content lets them get the same ammount of oxygen they would otherwise need
think of charcoal, you can take it and burn it at a very slow rate, or you can take saltpeter and sulfur, and when the charcoal burns, it gets the o2 to leave from the kno2, and the o2 that leaves gets replaced with sulfur, that rapid release of o2 makes the charcoal burn faster, when you have those 3, it makes gunpowder
more oxygen, faster reaction
its the same for the body, you add more oxygen, you can do more
hot air has less oxygen in it because it expands and spreads out
cold air condenses, more oxygen
you ever notice how you can breath better with cold air, thus a breath of fresh air, which is never hot air
would i buy this product? no, but it does work
you dont want to spend the 19 dollars for a can?
set up a battery, up to two wires for each terminal, each in water
have the wires below a bottle or bowl
air will develop on these wires and rise
half oxygen half hydrogen
you can look up what polarity develops what gas, but trial and error by flame will tell you as well
Pure oxygen is deadly, btw. Early frogmen of WW1 found out the hard way.
Also, you don't get energy from oxygen, you get energy from the decomposition of ATP. Moreso, you are directed to administer the product before you begin your activity and magically the effect lasts for more than another breath.
It's bullshit, plain and simple.

No ones heard of oxygen bars?
The first time I ever heard of one was in Nashville, TN of all places you would expect.
Has to be the most retarded idea I have ever heard. Pay $5 for 20 minutes of sucking air. There is a reason why it makes you feel good, on average the air we breath is about 50% actual oxygen if that. Its why you feel a little high when you get put on the stretcher and they stick an oxygen mask on you. Pure oxygen, non-polluted gives you that sort of high.

You have no clue what you are talking about do you? Air is no where close to 40% oxygen, and the oxygen that they use in a mask is hardly ever 100%, it would be more like a 50% oxygen mix. I think room air is 20%, and it's under 28% for sure.

Well of course we are both just throwing around random numbers, the point is outside everyday air is never more then 50% pure oxygen. I'm pretty sure the 20 percentile is pretty damn low, perhaps for indoor air hence why buildings and houses need circulation, I don't notice much because I leave my windows open 24/7 rain or shine.
There is a reason why oxygen tanks have to be a mix of two to three gases, I can't remember exactly why but back when I was bored and wikipedia'd everything I remember reading why.

I'm going to have to call bullshit on the air outside not being more then 28% oxygen. Like indoors its all about your environment. Circulation indoors could easily raises the oxygen flow by 50-100% with windows and doors open. So results vary and climate is a big difference. For instance it will be more stuffy and less oxygen in humid places over arid and windy areas like where I live. Not to mention pollution changes everything. City air always smells more unnatural then rural air. Same with coastal vs living on the plains.

When you live on the coast you can see all that pollution bullshit lingering over the ocean quite clearly. That's why LA has such vibrant sunsets . Not unreasonable to think that a lot of that carbon waste is what we breath rather than oxygen. I'd say we likely are thickening the air, but with deforestation and controlled burning we probably are decreasing the oxygen value of that same air yearly (by small .00* percentages)

HOLY SHIT
Is it that hard to google "gas composition of earth's atmosphere"?
"The Earth's atmosphere is a layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth that is retained by Earth's gravity. The atmosphere protects life on Earth by absorbing ultraviolet solar radiation, warming the surface through heat retention (greenhouse effect), and reducing temperature extremes between day and night. Dry air contains roughly (by volume) 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.038% carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of other gases. Air also contains a variable amount of water vapor, on average around 1%."
TL:DR
20.95% OXYGEN
78.08% NITROGEN
Secondly, I would also like to raise concern to the battery and the electrolysis of water. First off, you need to make sure you are using distilled water mixed with a inert salt (NaCl will not work) and you want to make sure your cathodes are also unreactive (go for platinum or carbon). Using copper wiring and impure water will likely result in the oxidation of copper, also, using NaCl may even result in the production of Chlorine gas. Please learn chemistry.
