So here (http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-09-15-Obama-elections_N.htm)is yet another example of combative and overly-exciting words being used to describe...well...just typical politics. "Obama BLASTS G.O.P. over economy"...I mean DAMN, they make it sound like something NEW is actually happening.
I think I commented on this phenomenon (http://bbs.zoklet.net/showthread.php?t=465&highlight=sound+effects) before, where the media uses words like "blasts" and "slams" and "attacks" to describe run-of-the-mill political shit. If you do a google news search of the word "blasts," you will indeed get this article, and a few other similarly toned political articles. But you know what you MOSTLY see? FUCKING EXPLOSIONS (http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&q=blasts). That's right, the word "blasts" is not a word that is usually used to describe a verbal calling-out from one tie-wearing politician to another. It's usually used to describe an event in which people were blown to smithereens. That's right - smithereens.
Pretty soon we'll be clicking on news links with titles like "Obama curb-stomps McCain" only to find that Obama has yet again made a mild attack statement about McCain's opinion on health care or some shit. And yet again, Fish will be disappointed by the lack of bloodshed.
