How hard is it to knit yourself a sweater and/or hat. Can I learn to do it easily?

Knitting is easy to learn, and you can follow a pattern for clothes. It's extremely tedious, but I suppose it's part of the appeal. Not really a project on its own, but rather something to pass the time.

i havent knitted in ages, but i cant be bothered giving away all my knitting stuff.
Its easy to learn actually. 95% of the time, youre just doing the same 4 step process over and over.
youtube is a pretty good source of info. joining stuff may be a bit tricky, but still not too difficult.
take a look at what kind of patterns you like before diving into it

Okay I'm learning the basics, but I'm a little confused, how do I make a hat? All i see is videos on how to make strips of wool cloth. Im trying to learn the garter stitch, is that the easiest one?

While I can't help you specifically on the stitches, what kind of hat are you trying for? a beanie? If you have a pattern you're following, post it here for the help.

get yourself some circular knitting needles. you dont want to do it with a whole bunch of regular straight ones

No I just think itll make a great conversation piece plus the satisfaction of being like "yo see this hat this here hat on mah head, I made it"
Eventually I want to make a guitar case.
Anyways Im confused on how this circular thing works, How do I switch from one to the other when I'm knitting my stitches? or do i need to get two circular ones?

What's better, knitting or crocheting?

When I was a kid, my granny tried to teach me knitting.
God damn it was a tedious exercise. Much preferred Lego or Mechano.
But yeah, Jewtube seems like the best place to start.

I got the hang of casting and garter stitching, but one thing that really pisses me off is that I have no idea what to do if I make a mistake but start over.

you can just pull your yarn such that it undoes the stitching backwards. stop pulling when it reaches the error then redo that bit.
