i know there are some here who live in new zealand, so maybe you could give me an opinion on this.

in searching for somewhere to go in the next few years, i've thought of many places, and just now new zealand came to mind. the obvious advantage being i already know the language, but it's still far far away from the US and is something different than what most people here would think of. i would venture to go so far as saying there are black people in my college who don't even know what new zealand is. that's points to me.

anyway i picked auckland out of the blue because it seems to offer the most, being the biggest city. i would want to do some graduate work at the university of auckland, maybe something in international business or law.

what's it like in new zealand? how are job prospects? how are women? if you know, how is auckland different from an american city? why are you the forgotten english speaking country?

I wouldn't limit yourself to Auckland. Auckland is very much a multi-cultural city but often the people there forget that there is an entire country and another island south of it. To travel NZ is fairly cheap, and you can ferry across the islands.

If you enjoy nature then you're coming to the right place. The cities are okay Wellington is by far the best IMO - great arts scene, friendly people, smaller city which makes getting around MUCH easier - you don't need a car here - great food and cafes so getting a hospo job is pretty easy if thats your thing. You should get a car/van and travel the islands, there are some truly beautiful places to see. The south island is spectacular and so very different looking to the north and very untouched compared to the north island.

New Zealanders are known to be pretty casual, easy-going and friendly. It's a very egalitarianism society - although if you're from somewhere like the states then that shouldn't be too 'out-there'. The women? Well I can't really comment on that as such cause I am one. Apparently we're promiscuous (according to some durex survey I read about - then again we're pretty honest people and wouldn't give a shit answering honestly).

I don't really know what else to say?

Ahh I don't think you will be disapointed. Auckland University is one of the top universities in the world (in the top 50). I personally was born in New Plymouth in Taranaki, which was recently voted the greatest city in the world. Ive been in auckland for 15 years, so im prone to bias. But Auckland does have the best job prospects, though it has extremley bad suburban sprawl. No matter where you end up, travelling to the south island is a must.

Auckland is very different to other cities in terms of ethnicity and diversity, you can always hear people speaking many many different foreighn languages in the CBD, which is nice :)
